z3 taking on water....any ideas? normal??

Hello all. Proud new z3 owner. Anyway I have a 2012 z3 with only 80 hrs on it and about every 20 minutes or so it will pump water out the rear aft starboard hole. It will pump out for about 5 min and quit. Then 20 minutes or so later kick on again.. I've opened the hatch and can't really see any water any where..is the normal?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That is way too much water there will be an issue there. Not sure where you would look to diagnose I would be asking a marina. It wont be too long the people on this form will help if you give then a little more information.

Could be the shaft seal. Could be a cracked ballast pump. Also could be the heater if your boat is equipped w one. Someone on this forum already had that problem this year.check your engine for loose hoses and such.

Time to crawl around a bit, looking for leaks. Here's a question: Is it "every 20 minutes or so" whether the engine is running or not? That may help narrow it down a bit.

Our 12 RZ2 did the same thing. Took a while to locate but looks like it was the prop shaft seal. I was told that year of boat had some issues with the seal. Ask dealer if your boat fit into the problem seals list. I located the problem by lifting the floor and driving around.

Then not engine hoses or heater hoses or anything directly related to the engine (or it would happen much faster when the engine is on). Leaky drain plug? Leaky swim platform mounts?

Since it's likely structural: Park the boat on the trailer and fill the bilge with a garden hose. If it leaks up, it will also leak down.

The shaft seal needs to have collar pushed back to increase the tension. 2012 and early 13 boats had a few issues with this. Should only take a few min.

Probably the shaft seal, but could also be a cracked pump housing. Your boat has a dripless packing. So minus you bringing water in on swimmers/ riders you should have a 100% dry boat. The shafts don't drip to lubricate like the old days. If your bilge pump runs AT ALL you have a problem. If you didn't put water in the boat its not normal for it to be there.

One more place to look, the mufflers. Recently had the same issue on a 24ve and it was bad and about the same rate. They ended up replacing the mufflers with straight hose and some adapters. Hit the search button for "cracked mufflers" and read the threads.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

Tige had a recall on those shaft seals, I had the same issue with my 2013 z1, it was fixed once and then they did it again and it solved the issue, talk to your dealer, it's should be warranty

I've always wondered... if you change the exhaust system that much (in this case, by removing the backpressure caused by a restrictive muffler and replacing it with free-flow hose) do you have to re-chip the ECU? Or are the existing sensors sufficient to sense the change and accommodate?

As far as I remember, it was, cause I received a letter straight from tige, that I had to take the boat to a dealer to have that shaft seal replaced, but I can't remember the exact reason as to why they would fail....

I have had this issue twice. Once was the exhaust manifold which actually happened on other manufacturers boats as well.
I recently had the issue again and I am 95% sure it's the shaft seal. The OJ is supposed to be the best manufacturer.
