    Newbie with my RZ2

Got a few questions that I have had some difficulty getting answered via my dealer and Tige themselves (no I'm not bashing anyone here) so I thought, this is the perfect place to ask all the dumb questions I could! So my boat is a 2014 RZ2 that did have some engine issues and currently has a brand new engine in it. It currently has 1 hour on it which was done at the factory. What would be the recommended break in period for this engine? The body has close to 100 hours on it so I assume pumps and everything are fine to run, not that there is a break in period with those!....see dumb question that just randomly pops into my head.

I assume if there is a break in period, then I need to keep the boat under a certain RPM's? No pulling?

Next question, How in the H#LL do I put the bimini up? It currently is sitting inside the boat and wasn't even installed on the tower. I've watched the only video that I could find on youtube about the alpha z bimini surf tower so I have a general idea, just didn't know if anyone had any tricks or tips on this?

Lastly, my previous boat had two plugs (malibu) one in the middle of the boat and one at the transom. Does the Tige only have one plug?

Also is there anywhere that you can pick up some cheap Tige stickers for the truck? I called Tige and the only decent sticker they have is the actual Tige decal that goes on the side of the boat for 99.99......Ummmmm NO THANKS! Just spent how much on a boat to pay another 99.99 for a sticker? That doesn't sit to well with my accountant aka the wife!

    thanks for the help

The PCM manual should lay out their break in, but IMO, drive it like you will eventually. If the engine is built right, it will not make a difference. If the engine is not assembled right, it still wont make a difference. if there is a defect in any of the engine components, no amount of beak-in driving will make a difference.

      Nope, single transom plug

Sounds like someone misunderstood your request. Tige gives us a stack of them each year for our owners events. If you dont put your hands on any, let me know, I likely have some laying around.

Thanks for the responses thus far. Guess I'm looking for something sticker wise that is a decent looking sticker and not the small one that is pictured hereimages.jpg and no that is not me!

About that PCM manual.....yeah didn't get one of those! Got the boat and some information from my dealers Z3

Is the new engine a PCM or an Indmar?

This is probably just a miscommunication....The $100 "decal" that Tige is talking about isn't a sticker...it's the chrome Tige emblem.....

Break in wise you might want to take it easy the first 10 hours or so. Change the oil around the 20-25 hour mark and then should be good for yearly oil changes. I've heard of marine engine companies denying claims if engine gets ran full under the 10 hour mark, otherwise I'd agree with CHP and say run it like you will normally!

Only 1 plug in the newer boats at rear transom under platform. Your malibu was likely a DD and most of them had 2.

Go to ebay or such or a local vinyl shop to get stickers. I have asked also at factory for larger cheaper vinyl decals and license plates with the logo and haven't seen anything available yet. Last few I've ordered off of ebay cheap.

Video on the forum is great! My one piece of advice with Bimini. Buy a small thing of bungee chords(the ones with the round ball on them work well) with all of those poles and fabric bungee them together then zip up in bimini cover.

Order a tshirt or some other stuff from the tige gear site and they always throw a couple of stickers in the box.

I just went through the break in on my Z1 and it says under 2000 RPM for the first 2 hours, under 3000 RPM till 4 hours, under 4000 RPM and no towing or ballast till 10 hours. Type in TIGE stickers on ebay and you will find plenty for sale. They are reasonable and come in many colors and sizes.

Can always print or send a sticker shop the picture of the logo and have them make you one any size/color you want. The local dealer gives out white stickers and I wanted a silver one to match my truck so I just took the white one in and said make me this 4 inches bigger and in silver. cost me $ 10

I'll second the small bungee cords for holding the bimini together before you zip it up. Put the main large loop in first on the brackets that are closest to the racks. If you get this in backwards you just have to flip it over. The brackets above that will be for the support arms which will come out once you unroll it. Once on the tower just watch the video a couple times to put it up. It took me a couple times before I got the process down.

Thanks everyone for the input. Was looking forward to putting the boat in and surfing but looks like that won't be happening. Guess I did this on my malibu when I bought it new however its been a few years and kids later and I've since forgotten. Just looked on ebay, found some good stickers, so thanks for the suggestion!

                          I second the Ebay suggestion.

I have come to the conclusion that break in procedures are retarded. Because these engines are mostly the same, and my new boat with PCM 450 has instructions to warm it up and then run it to 5500 RPM for 1 minute, then run around at 28-3200 RPM for 20-30 minutes and then repeat this regularly for the first 5 hours. The variance between owner's manuals is a sure sign that nobody knows what is best for a new engine.
                          Be excellent to one another.

I think it is all BS. I was in a few different boats at Southern Surfest with the Factory Sales guys. I asked them about the break in of the Raptor motor and how you are not supposed to use ballast, go above 3000 rpm, or go WOT. They all said the same thing. Just do not go WOT or a constant speed for 30 to 60 mins without varying the rpms. Other than that have fun.

One boat had only 7 hours on it and they were surfing with 6 people in the boat for 6 hours per day.

As for the stickers, I would email Jean and tell her that you just bought a brand new to you RZ2 and you want to share the #tigelove. Please send me some stickers. What is the worst she is going to say..."no"? Then you go to Ebay.

The break-in of the engine is similar to a car, you're trying to seat the piston rings to the cylinder walls to get a good seal, and getting the last bit of manufacturing debris from the internals out of the engine, hence the 20 hour oil change. If you go on some engine build forums and race car forums they recommend taking a fresh built engine, find a close empty straight road, let the engine warm up and give it hard acceleration up to 60-70 mph, then brake hard, rinse and repeat for 10 reps, get home and change the oil right away, break-in complete, drive like normal after that. The hard breaking is to set the pads.
