    Walter v-drive breather cap seized

    Walter v-drive breather cap seized.

    Anyone else have this problem? If so what did you do?

    I have the black drive in a '99.
    '99 Tige 21v MercCruiser 350 MPI

    Can u post a picture? They're not supposed to be removable.
    Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

        The cap itself is not removable but the whole cap assembly is. Just below the cap there are two flats that a open end combination wrench will fit . Its either a 3/4, 7/8, or 15/16. I can't remember exactly. When removed if will have 1/4" pipe thread on the bottom just like the pic. I remove to suck/ fill my oil. It was TIGHT Upon first removal.

          Yeah it is very tight for me.
          I bought some penetrating oil and chipped off all the paint around the threads. Going to get a new vise grip and snap that on just a above the threads and maybe tap the elbow to create some vibration and give it a turn. If that doesn't work to get it out I might just have to get that entire elbow and a new breather and snap it off and just remove the elbow.

            Got it!! Penetrating oil and a new vise grip, couple taps and it came right out.
