    My RZ2 Upgrades - 2014/2015

In the spirit of sharing my insanity with the community, I figured I would post the progression of upgrades that I began last season and continue now, as a new season is set to begin...

My list of 2014 upgrades include:
    - MLA RZ2 specific ballast sacs for the rear lockers
    - Full cross vent and drain of rear ballast systems
    - Add check valves into rear ballast systems fill lines
    - Replace defective fuel tank vent air/fuel separator (more on this later)
    - Install wiring harness from helm to port/starboard rear for video and power to GoPro
    - Tige Touch magic button install
    - Stereo upgrade (see pics) ...

    1. Butcher the helm wall, move all electronics up as high as they can go, move heater up, DON'T cut the steering cable!

    2. Design and build a subwoofer enclosure for Wetsounds XS-12

    3. Completed enclosure installed and new helm wall constructed, WS-420BT installed

    4. Front starboard locker with heater moved and subwoofer enclosure installed

    5. Sub rack installed with new SD6 and SD2 amplifiers, 1/0 power and ground cabling to battery

My boat was factory ordered with 2xRev10 and 2xRev8 on the tower. As part of the stereo upgrade, the Rev8's were removed and replaced with another set of Rev10's. I made my own set of tower adapter trim rings to complete the factory look.

2015 upgrades completed and underway include:
    - Replace fuel/air separator with large Racor unit (LG100) - I could no longer tolerate the spontaneous venting of gas onto the hull with the puny factory unit
    - Replace bow roller on trailer with one that doesn't leave black skids on hull - not sure yet which model to use ...

Replaced factory board racks with Samson's in surf/surf config

Installed Nautic Laugic GPS speedometer - this is the puck location

    Installed DualPro battery charger

I don't imagine doing a whole lot more with the boat this season other than enjoying it. That said, I'm still considering a new location for the WS-420 that makes it more integrated/permanent. I owe thanks to this forum for help and advice during a number of these upgrades. If there are any specific questions or other pictures anyone would like to see, please ask.

Here's one final shot - this is my son at Hungry Horse, Montana last summer. We had just installed the MLA sacks and were playing with getting everything set up right. Thanks folks!

I have a 2012 RZ2 and was looking to do the same wit a sub. Would you share the dimensions of the box you built or prints you made for it? It looks great!

Nice work man, upgrades are killer. You'll like those Sampson racks, pretty much every boat here in Denver has them, good product.

I posted a reply yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have made it in... Anyhow, I'll dig out the plans for the box and post it up this weekend. It was designed specifically around the XS-12 sub, and works very well. It's a bit tricky to fit under the helm and requires a fair bit of cutting and the complete rebuild of the helm wall. Well worth it in the end though.

Now that we have a season on the Samson racks, I can easily say that I wish I'd put them on sooner. They are great and having the surf / surf versions helps a lot too.

Sorry for not getting these posted sooner. I've dimensioned these plans as best I could. Using these along with the solid cross sections and pictures previously posted, you should be able to reconstruct the box. Let me know if there's any confusion or questions.

I only see one problem. It might be too detailed.
Sometimes you have to do what feels good, rather than what feels right.
