Volvo penta Forward drive?? replace the V drive??

This looks like like a game changer.
    Two versions

Inboard style and a reversed out drive style.

Hope this will not tank the v drive and its future resale value.

It sure would make a difference in handling on our boats as it would provide us directional reverse for one.

      Volvo Penta Forward Drive

Why would it? What is the big difference of placing the prop in front of the drive?

And ACME would love it! Selling me twice as many props.

Perhaps a Hail Mary to put growth back into I/O sterndrives. They've been losing market share to outboards, even in cruisers, for several years now.

Here is an article on the FWD drive. It looks as if Volvo has had some safety issues with the Dual Prop drives in the past. Fairly good read and they have other articles on propeller safety.

I was looking at the inboard setup they have also, drive is ahead of the motor and under the boat.
Looks like it would work well, especially for docking.

Do a quick search on volvo IPS problems, then give us your thoughts.

Looks like a dpx transom and upper with an IPS style lower. Pretty thoughtful on using existing assemblies... should be about a $15000 unit to replace. Lotsa worm gears, shims, roller bearings, vertical and horizontal shafts, more gears, prop hubs, shaft seals, drive oil and gaskets and bellows and shift cable underwater. And gimbal bearings and rubber drive hubs and y-pipe exhaust and power steering coolers and power steering pumps...
Rudder, prop, strut and strut bearing, shaft packing, transmission.
