    next step for subwoofer sounds

I have the 10 inch kicker cvr Subwoofer. I built a ported box which was a huge upgrade but.....what would be the next step if I wanted a little better sound quality maybe a little louder but keep the same box set up with a 10 inch subwoofer? Would like to keep the kicker 700.5 amp if possible. Kicker Cvx10? Maybe Rockford p3/10/4ohm?

Just seeing what my options are!

      1) any sub change would need to be a dual 4 ohm or a single 2 ohm in order to get the 420W rms from the amp.

      2) louder would mean a larger sub or more wattage. It would take doubling the wattage to the cvr to make a real impact on volume, thats pushing the thermal limits of the sub.

      3) if you retain the same 420W rms, stay with a 10 and retain the same enclosure, the only way to get more output, is more extension. I doubt you are going to get a seat of the pants upgrade that you can sit back and say it was worth the investment.

      4) i'll be the first to say that Kicker subs are not known to the most SQ subs on the market, but they do have some good subs. Getting the most SQ and performance from any given woofer comes down to the enclosure. Sealed enclosure are easy to tune, but a ported has to be spot on. Now, thats not even taking into account, the amp tuning for the entire in-boat system.

      5) You would have to do a lot of searching to find a more SQ 10 that would work in the port tuned Kicker cvr-10 enclosure.

Without knowing anything about the enclosure and the amp tuning, its hard for me to condemn the sub, without revisiting the enclosure and tuning.
