Non VX R20 RZR owners....How is your surf wave?? Have to decide ASAP on boat!

    Hi Guys,

Recently sold the RZ2, looking at a smaller boat due to lack of use....considering the R20. Dealer has a Black R20 without the VX. If I don't buy that unit, i won't get a boat until mid july according to their dealer build slot.

I could have went with one that started production today as it was just a hull and deck, so i couldn't change the color. The dealer told me i couldn't change anything in that build as far as they know.

So if I want to stay with the brand, my choice is a black R20 without VX. Im concerned about the surf wake...I want a decent intermediate-beginner level wake, that is not right on the swim platform.

So, can i get that wave from a non vx R20 and surf ballast? Would I need new rear bags?

I dont want to put bags on or under seats.

    thanks!

The wake in our 2014 r20 is pretty good. I would upgrade for more ballast in the bow before more in the rear. Other people we know have 22ft malibus and the r20 wake is better

2013 RZR with surf ballast here. Best surf wake I have ever seen in a 20 ft boat. Rivals some larger boats. Wakeboard wake is too touchy/listly but surf wake is dope.

Do you notice the boat being touchy/listy just driving it to and from your fav hangout? Of course depending on people placement.....

The surf wave from my R20 is better than the surf wave from my friends Malibu 23lsv... And that was last season with just base ballast in my R20.. Dealer has installed the surf ballast upgrade over the winter for me so I'm going to assume that it will only be better. I have 0 issues with my wakeboarding wake either. We also spent 5 days at Lake Powell mostly cruising and was very impressed with the ride and handling.

I have a 2013 non-VX RZR. Love the surf wave. Below is a pic. This is with the bow full and the port ballast full. I have the factory 1600# setup-

This is why I love this forum. Tony from Tige posts and I have to think that it will be a solution to your problem! Awesome. #Tigelove

I have an R20 and think it is a great surf wave without the VX, haven't tried it with VX to compare.

As for the wakeboard wake I like mine, the R20 is sensitive to weighting side to side so you will need to make adjustments to get in dialed in each time depending on how the boat is loaded. Same goes for just cruising around.

I attached a photo of my R20 wave I need to take some without a surfer to get a better view of it. I have the surf ballast I do have an additional 400 pounds of pop sacks I take if it is just me and one or two people, anymore people than that I just go with the stock ballast.

Also call Tony who posted above!

So it looks like VX isnt really needed with this boat?? Perhaps weighting it more and adding the VX would be better....but is it 3k better??
