Goofy side surf wake yes, it's better, unless I guess you add a surf flap.

I'm loving this thread! My wife and I just bought a 14RZR in December. This has been a question in the back of our minds because it did not come with a VX and have always wondered What if? We are beginner level at all aspects of Watersports and just want to get better and have fun. We have been out several times this year and are absolutely thrilled with the surf wake. IMO I would just upgrade to the surf ballast and use the rest of the dough to upgrade something else! You will be happy without the VX, we are!!!

Here's my 11 RZR. Ballast setup is 400 front filled, surf side hard tank (250) and tige w004 (770) full... so 1000 ish. Taps is at 2 here and speed was either 10.6 or 10.8. If I run taps at 4 it will barrel and beef up but it shortens the pocket. Additional speed helps a little bit for pocket length but not considerably.
The VX is good for keeping the goofy side clean of prop wash and allows a full range of taps setting with an elongated pocket. Surf ballast is not enough with VX though so keep that in mind. The video is of the same weight configuration. The boat has a surf flap.

That last video looks like a nice long pocket. I would say wit the 3 kids on the surf side seat, that would give me the same weight......it seems the consensus is the VX is good for another 2 feet or so...and i guess for 3k, is it worth the money?
On a side note....how is that vector tower?? Noisy?

2012 RZR with factory surf ballast - No vx. Front -one 400# sac full rear 350 bag over 250 hard tank full. Taps at 2 speed 11.0 We have surf flap that i detailed in the surf flap thread. Lake is only 8' deep.
Me driving 185lb daughters friend sitting on sun pad (you can see his leg - orange board shorts) 150 lb
9 foot ocean surf board soft top with my daughter and her friend riding - daughter is 5'5" 120 her friend is 5'4" 120.
They rode forever like this - ropeless- If you notice the slight curve in my driving it is because I had to turn I was running out of lake.
The goofy wave is just as nice. I did add the custom fat sac form Mike Liquid audio to that side and the flap is for the goofy side mostly. Didn't notice much difference flap or no flap on regular side.
We like the wakeboard wake it can be touchy but most wakes crumble on opposite side when you carve anyway. Never feels tippy going to and from ramp, cruising or to hangout spots.
My wife and daughter drive all the time and my daughter is only 14. Before anyone slams me for having her drive so young she has attended the coast guard boating class.

So happy I finally came across a thread like this. Test drove a 2015 RZR with the AVX system the other weekend and the Raptor engine. First off the Raptor engine is insane. Don't have much to compare it to but the thing was an absolute beast. It was pretty noisey though. Second, was a little underwhelmed with the AVX system. Kept asking the difference between teh VX and AVX from a real world experience standpoint, but haven't gotten anything conclusive yet on it other than you get a $3,000 remote to control the wave while surfing. Seems from these videos that a R20/RZR without any system, VX or AVX, surfs awesome! If there is more please keep it coming.

That's awesome, last year my 14 yo son was getting snippy with his mother's driving & telling her how to do everything. I pulled him out of the water & made him drive for the rest of the day, he is much more mellow about making adjustments to the wave now & he even takes turns behind the wheel. :-)

Im also looking at an 2014 MB B52 21 that is new for 56k...that has a nice tower and looks like a pretty decent boat.
56k is a whole lot less than the R20 Im building out, and if I wanted the Alpha, id be up in the 69k range. At that point I might as well look at an RZR or 2014 SAN 210 or 2014 Malibu VLX w 14 hours.
I thought selling my boat was going to be easy and fun.....not so much

You should be able to buy a well optioned RZR for the money you are talking. if you are paying 65-69K for an R20 you are getting ripped off. That must be MSRP. You've got to be shopping at Skipperbud's!!!

LOL!! Yes!
Im at 66,777 OTD on an R20 with Tower of Power and the VX. MSRP on the Tige Build sheet is 86k.
What do you think about that price?? That leftover MB B52 which has a nicer tower and the same sound system is 56k.
A 2015 RZR was running 75k plus TTL
I could get a 2014 BU VLX for 69 plus TTL, but it has no bags.
I could get a 2014 SAN 210 for 70k plus TTL
I wanted to be at 65k OTD on this next boat.....so the MB is looking Pretty good.
Now i will say Skipper's and Tony are working to find me a boat or an earlier build, but at 9 grand more....I can't see the Tige getting the nod unless the MB is a POS. I wish i could get a better price on an RZR, but what are ya gunna do??
