out on my boat today after all this rain making sure everyhting is alright, i was looking closely at the engine and realized it is rusting quickly. the paint where the heads connect to the exhaust are getting yellow and starting to peel off and rusting underneath......is this normal on a new boat with only 75 hours on it?

I was going to ask the same question but for a 2002. Engine (350 Merc)looks fine from the top but when you bury your head and look closer there are several rust spots on various parts.
The boat is stored out of the water and double covered. It's always been thoroughly dried out before storage. I have never drained the water in the motor as freezing is not an issue in CA.
I figured this was normal but not feeling comfy with rust I bought heat resistant paint and was planning on sanding and painting any visible rust.
Is a little rusting normal?
Have any of you tried touch up painting rust spots?
Did it stop or slow future rusting?

GM vortec by Merc or Marine Power ?? I've had Mercs for years and have never had any issues with peeling or rusting. The Marine Power engines I have seen definitely don't look finished as well as Mercs -- probably a completely different cleaning and painting process.
Get your dealer to have a look while it's still under warranty and see if the engine supplier can tell you what to do to correct it.
