Triple towing

It all depends on how big your fifth wheel is. I have personally been a part of and seen safe tows like this but they were all within length guidelines and weight guidelines. From my experience there's no way you could make the weight requirement for the truck unless it was a 350/3500 dually or bigger. I'm not saying that your 6.7 wont do it power wise but i guarantee it would be over legal weights for the truck if its not a dually.

The weight on that RZR seems of to me as well. Ready for the lake my RZR is mid 5000's in weight. I do have 4 cans subwoofer's, coolers, boards, jackets etc etc.

I just picked up my 2015 RZR two weeks ago and drove it right to the scales, the tandem axle weighed 5269 lbs not including the tongue weight of approximately 500 lbs. there was nothing in the boat except for a 1/2 tank of gas. Maybe the new Raptor motor weighs more.....

I have triple towed for several years with both a RZR and Z1 without issue. Our 5er is only 30 feet and weights less than 9000 lbs. empty. when tripling, I always travel with as little fuel in boat as possible, no water in camper tanks. I had a hitch shop install a custom hitch that they bolted on, refused to weld on frame. They installed the hitch 5 feet back on the camper and bolted 5 times to frame on each rail. Very solid and very easy to check to make sure the hitch is not coming loose as you can see the bolts and where the hitch is attached. I also installed a camera to monitor things under way and help with hitching up. Pay attention to the laws for length. I have never been questioned about it and have been on some long trips over some Colorado mountain passes without issue with lack of power and have never felt out of control. We tow with a 2011 Chevy 2500. i would not go any bigger than a Z1 with our setup. Hope this helps!

Although it's not a Tige I've pulled tandem for 2 years and mine comes in right at 73 feet.
It's hard to see the boat so a camera on the back of the 5'er would be beneficial.
You can't be in a hurry and need to be real defensive because some a'hole WILL pull in front of you at the worst times not realizing trains don't stop on a dime!

Palle Man, I wasn't trying to beat you up on the weight of your boat or what you think it is, I just wanted to make sure that you are getting a properly sized hitch for towing that behind your camper. I know lots of people that tow their boats behind their 5'er and they've all stressed the importance of a solid hitch for it.

2) What type of mpg is attained?
3) How often do you trail this way and how far?

Timmy, no worries mate. You are probably right on that. As always I appreciate all the feedback. We are having the frame "beefed" up on the 5er and a hitch rated at 5500 lbs. will be welded on. We will definitely be taking it slow.

For those who tow a 5th wheel and boat or other trailer behind it I have two questions. - There are 3 questions
1) What is typical speed on 4 lane highway in the hills? We have alot of 2 lane roads here as well as several mountain passes to drive so geographical area will be diverse. That being said I roll usually right at 60-70mph as that seems to be the sweet spot. Mountain passes will usually slow to 50 up and on the way down 80-85
2) What type of mpg is attained? This will vary based on terrain as indicated in Q1 as well as tow rig and camper setup. Mine is a 07 lbz duramax w/efi live, 6in lift & 35in tires, pulling a lifted 30ft 5'er & I average 10-11mpg overall. But I'm sitting pretty high and loaded to the max
3) How often do you trail this way and how far? at least 1/2 dozen times usually 300miles round trip.

These pick up trucks today will have no problem towing these long loads, the problem I have seen is that the people driving these units have no idea on to stop them!!! They never give them self enough time to stop. IMHO, this should be illegal every where, it is where I live. I have seen way to may wrecks with this combination. Sorry for the rant, just my 2 cents.

I have been towing single and triple tows since I was 14, growing up farming and I am well aware of the stopping distance and potential outcomes. You just need to think way ahead and plan on other drivers making bad decisions.

On the hitch you said a 5500 pound hitch receiver to add on the 5th wheel... Were it me i would opt for at least a 7000 pounder... I know the boat wont use all 7000 pounds of capacity, but the 5500 is cutting it awfully close. My 22Ve weighs over 6500 on the trailer completely loaded ready for the water (without any people riding in the boat or coolers). The price difference may be minimal but when it comes to towing i always feel that overkill is underrated. Have more weight capacity than you will need not the other way around.

Viking, please do everyone a favor and slow down.. 85 mph coming down the mountain towing two trailers is f'n stupid. Going that speed towing one trailer is dumb.

Do you train it up with your 22Ve? I haven't done it with this boat, but with all this talk I'm considering doing it again. I'm not sure my 06 22ve would be that heavy, but if so that might be a little much dragging behind my 5ver.

No I tow it to the Lake House at the start of the season and tow it back to my full time house and keep it in a heated barn and play with it all winter in the barn. I have no reason to piggy back honestly.

One reason I wouldnt Like towing the boat behind a 5er is braking... 5ers have nice electric or hydraulic disc brakes which are very responsive and dont allow much push on the vehicle, surge brakes act differently and are not responsive until the boat is pushing on the tow vehicle which means its pushing on the 5er which isnt my idea of a good time.
