I find this an interesting topic, I've never even tried to find the top speed of my tow boats. I honestly drive by RPM whenever I am not towing. When cruising to our spots I rarely go over 3200 RPM which is between 22 and 25 MPH depending on weight, wind and chop. I will adjust the taps to right before it starts to porpoise. I changed out my 537 to a 1235 last year.
I am not in enough of a hurry to trade a little time for a lot of fuel. The lake I go to is over an hour from the closest gas station down 12 miles of dirt road, and then winding mountain road. I fill the boat and put 50 gallons in a drum which will last a 3-day weekend, we are usually towing from morning to night with a lunch break on the water and stops to pump ballast/swim. I hate getting gas at the marina because a lot of people have had issues with water/dirty gas over the years, not to mention the price difference.

So, what kind of top end are you getting???

Didn't have a chance to check it. I probably wont get back out until the holiday weekend and will report back. Cruising speed was 27MPH at about 3300RPM. That is about 500 RPM less than before the change if my memory is correct.

Made it down to Shasta for the weekend. Top speed was 41 MPH at 5,200 RPM. There might have been a little more there but I didn't want to push it. 38 MPH turned 4,900 RPM.

I can't remember my top end RPM. Thinking it was in the 5,300-5,500 range. I am about 660 ft. above sea level. All in I was getting about 38mph. Hardly ever drive it over 25 mph. Kills me, but makes my wife happy!
