Help with 2015 Tige Z3 Surf Weighting

    Hello Everyone,

I am just working through the short strokes of getting a new 2015 Tige Z3 with AVX.

Does anyone have any experience with any vx Z3 surf ballast weighting for the Regular side?

If you have any setup suggestions or you are happy with Stock.

What is your maximum List angle?

    Thanks in advance

I didn't have mine long enough to dial in last fall, so I am all ears on this topic too.

If no other people in the boat besides driver, I'd try starting with full front ballast both sides and full port rear. If I had 2 people to put in the rear surf side of the cockpit (or an extra bag to put on the seat), then I'd start adding offside weight in the rear to sink the boat.

The inclinometer pegs at 10 degrees. I can hit that easily set up for goofy. Harder to hit on standard/regular with the driver being in the offside unless you have people or extra ballast. I thought the latest Tige promo video said something about a 7 degree optimum list angle. I'll have to pay more attention to that.

      How does it wakeboard?

After earning this souvenir from a wakeboarding jump 2 years ago (90% ACL tear and torn meniscus), I'm retired from wakeboarding.

Sorry I can't be of help!

I'd fill the front bags and fill the hard tanks in the rear with maybe a couple of inches of water in the rear bags as a starting point and work from there. I've seen a very nice wakeboard wake on trace's '14 Z1, I've just not chased it on my Z3

There's a thread about z3 with avx at the polar bear on here. It was originally weighted with both front full and surf side full with surf x bags. They found it lacked push so the filled opposite side 50%. The avx setting are in the other thread for both sides.

I don't have the avx but fill my Z3 100% on front and rear surf side then add 25% to offside rear. I have the stock surf x in my 15. Add 2-3ppl on rear surf side and the wave gets pretty large. Not sure on list angle don't really pay attention to it if the wave is clean and large that's all I care! Ragboy on here can chime in as he runs a Z3 and has extensive hours on one.

I have a 2014 Z3, pretty much the same as JLG. I do have the wake9 bags. When the front bags are full, I will shut off the pump to the opposite surf side bag while continuing to fill the surf side. I have been recently playing around with some extra weight to manage weight distribution when I cant get enough people to go out. I have four small tool bags with 100lbs of lead in each. I can fit one each in the small compartments just in front of the rear deck. Then one or two in front of the bag on the surf side locker.

SM- I have some of MLA custom sacs laying around from my other boat and was debating on putting them in this Z3. They are similar in size to the wake9 bags. So far I like the wave i'm getting with just the factory bags and it usually is just my wife and 2 small children in boat. I am afraid to lose any more storage space as I lay my slalom skis in the port locker area. How far up to those bags go compared to the factory? Just curios

The wake9 bags will eat up almost all of the long locker except maybe the last 6 inches or so (they do not go into the big locker). They DEFINITELY make a difference on the wave. I will either fold the bag back or store goods on top of the bags when not in use. I store lifejackets on top of the starboard side bags in the rear locker. The starboard bag (driver side right?) will eat up the whole compartment up to the trash bucket, however since we seldom ride goofy, I will fold the bag back and leave it folded because we will not need the volume, gives me the storage. I can see where the slalom skis would be a problem. Have to store on top of the bag then either up front or on the tower racks when you need to fill the bag.

SM- thanks for info. Yes I was afraid I would lose that little area in the side underseat. I'm sure the wave has to be a lot larger as when we add a couple ppl in the rear corner it get huge! I surf goofy and my wife is regular so we are constantly switching sides. I ski more than surf so don't want to lose my skis.

                      JLG,

Does your 2015 have the 350 lb surf sacs like previous years or the new for 2015 "enzo" style tige surf sacs? Your MLA bags should have enough fittings, other than an unneeded vent line in the leg of the Tige sacs I saw. I already know of one of these fittings snapping off anyway.

mine has the new Enzo style sacs. Yes I would have enough fittings on the Z3 sacs I got from you just not sure if I want to lose anymore storage space. These boats are limited on space as is then you go and add subs in the lockers and you struggle to find spots to cram needed equipment. I would guess your MLA bags will net me another 200-300lbs maybe a little more which would be nice. I might just throw them in on one of my first outings in april see what I think.

So my sacs are that much longer than the new Tige sacs? I did not get a chance to measure them when I did a quick going over of the 2015 Z3, but will this week when the boat show opens.

CHP I have not measured them either but it appears they will be a bit bigger than the factory 15 sacs. My boat is in TX getting subs installed so when I get back at end of week I'll do some measuring or if you beat me to it let me know.

yeah, i was wondering the difference between Mikes custom ballast bags and the stock ones...

according to the wake9 event the boat needs approx 3600 lbs and 6-7 ppl.

So I'm guessing 1500 lb custom sack+400 lbs of lead on surf side, 600 lbs of counterweight, 1100 lbs up front.... I am having trouble sorting out where to put the weight...
