It might be a little late but since no one has commented on price, I will comment...

I personal think 18k is a little high, especially this time of year and with that tower. However, with a new motor/warranty and good overall condition that number is not out of line, just on the higher side.

For comparison, last year around this time I sold a 2000 22i for 13k...

    Hope that helps.

Jslayde1: Thanks for the input...I think I have worked it down a little off of the $18k so that will hopefully match it up a little closer....

i would look to try to lake test when the lake has chop. if you have concerns about handling in thos conditions. also try to bum a drysuit and get a session in behind it if you can with no ballast. the towers then werent the sturdyest. I would check it around all the welds. turn everything on and off make sure it all works. play with the taps to confirm guage is working. test the perfect pass. test stereo. look under all the seats condition of carpeting....but looks like this has already been detailed. view all their maintenance and did they actually switch out the cable. good luck to you and hope you hit the water soon.

my 20i would handle waves like a champ...heavy wind days were the best she could plow thru waves, cause heavy waves on 1 side of the lake means glass on the other you just had to have the fortitude to get to it.

Alright guys, I'm heading down to the dealership today for a water test tomorrow. Here is what I have on my list to check out...anybody feel like I am missing anything?

            On the Water:

            - Vibration @ any RPM?
            - Steering
            - Whistling
            - Ballast Bags/Pumps
            - Perfect Pass
            - "Clunk" going from forward to reverse
            - All gauges
            - All Lights
            - Electronics
            - Pumps, switches, etc

            Trailer:
            - All lights
            - Brakes
            - Carpet on the rails
            - Tire tread
            - Surge Brakes

            Boat (Out of the water)
            - Gelcoat
            - Tower Welds
            - Review Maintenance paperwork
            - Prop

Anything else besides obviously checking out the overall condition of the interior/exterior, etc?

Price is high. I was working at a dealership this summer and we traded a 99 like that in with a rebuilt engine and similar options. The condition wasn't quite as nice (judging from the pictures). That boat sold in the summer (prime time) for $13K. $18K is more than a little high IMO. That is a $14-15K boat this time of year IMO.

I am unsure about pricing. Not to take anything away from boardman's comment, but we are up in the frozen tundra, which you are obviously not so your market may lead to a different pricing structure than ours. In addition to that, the dealership he was at is probably one of the lowest sale price (at least on new) in the country. That said, always negotiate your best deal, this time of the year is when they should really be willing to move on the pricing to get inventory moved.

If it isn't too late, make sure to take your tow vehicle and try to get the dealer to allow you to tow it. This will give you a better idea and direct feel for how the brakes on the trailer work. It also will indicate any unusual vibration when in tow since you will be able to feel it instead of following behind or riding along.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Have them hook it up to a code reader so you know what the actual hours are. Peace of mind as the hour meters can sometimes be off.

                    Thanks for the input guys.....

Boardman: That must have been an awesome deal for someone but there is no way they are coming down that far. There are already two other people waiting to put downpayments on the boat if i dont purchase. One gentlemen tried to outbid me even after i had the boat on hold. From looking at the current boats on onlyinboards.com and boattrader.com the price we have agreed upon seem like a fair price for all parties.

I dont see how one could compare a dealers trade-in resale price, to a private to private sale. In most cases, the dealer's trade value shown is well below the market value. In some cases, its as much as 40% left of avg book. Boat dealers dont want to sit on trade inventory, so they typically price them to move, as their profit is in the sold new boat, not the trade. Its all about the bottom line.

See in my experience at least in this area comparable boats are more expensive at a dealership then from a private party. Dealers have overhead and private parties don't. Boats aren't unlike cars in the fact that the money is in the used ones for a dealership. Trade in was close to half of the posted asking price of the OP's target boat. I don't know of an area where dealers routinely sell cheaper than private parties. There are reasons for this: dealers have overhead, dealers routinely go over the boats and make needed repairs, and dealers usually stand behind a used boat to some degree. These are extra costs and price reflects that. Private sellers don't have those costs.

I wasn't talking trade value, thats what the boat sold for. I can also tell you from buying and selling a lot of boats in the last 20 years and working for multiple dealers, there are more than 50% of the people on this site(and all the others) that are way off on what they think their boats are worth. Thats why you see used boats sit and sit and sit and sit for sale on craigslist, OIB, on here and similar sites. Nice used properly priced inboards sell quickly. When I sell, I price to sell. I'm not one to price high and sit and wait. All that gets you is tons of idiots and tire kickers. In the end you get pretty much the same price with tons more headaches. I don't see the point.

Come on man……are you really buying that sales pitch. If so I have some great Ocean front property in Arizona I'd love to talk to you about. Thats one of the oldest ones in the book. Give you the old hard sell. "If you don't buy it today there are 10 other people waiting to take it." Ask how long the boat has been for sale. Must have just went up the day you put a deposit on it!! LOL Come on!!!!

I agree with Boardman. Maybe in May they will have some other buyers, but right now, there just aren't a lot of buyers.

That may be a sales gimmick. I had the same thing told to me about a boat I was looking at. When I waited, they called back saying the alternative buyer's financing fell through.

And the posted prices on OIB and other websites are for boats that ain't sold yet. It can be a guide, but I would not put stock on it. If you watch the market for months, you will see the same boats over and over. It wouldn't surprise me that some dealers post bogus ads to make theirs look the cheapest. Then when you call the higher priced one, it is mysteriously sold and they 'forgot' to take down the ad.
                            Be excellent to one another.

Have you guys really seen that many V-drives (any brand) with decent vinyl, working motor, decent trailer for under $20k?

They are out there and as Vdrives get older(remember they weren't common until late 90's) there are more and more. But finding a late 90's sub 20K boat that doesn't need any work is tougher. They are just getting to that gas where they are gonna need stuff.
