    Surf tabs?

So I am opening up for discussion the idea of "Surf Tabs". It has been tossed out there many times and discussed in many threads. What I am wondering and want to hear about is true facts as to what is working out there as a one off for our Tige boats. I know many have discussed their fabricated ideas. Now that some time has elapsed, what is working?

Is there a solution that those that want to could add plates similar to the Barnett trim tabs? Or something similar to the NSS system? Maybe these tabs need a different shape similar to how Centurian is using.

So is anyone venturing out to make up something for our older boats that could really work well. We all would love to take the heavy list out of the boat as well as be able to switch side to side quick. And most of all still have a fantastic Tige surf wake.

I suspect those two things will be mutually exclusive, at least on a retrofit system. The "fantastic Tige surf wake" is due to how the hull interacts with the water today, as equipped. Start hanging big ol' tabs out the side and you will dramatically change that. It might be great, it might suck, but it will be different for sure.

I used to not be a fan of gated waves but I rode a moomba xlv with a gated wave and slight list. Wave was very good and an improvement over the listed wave I rode on the same boat. The goofy side is better than regular. I also rode out my first, second, and third 360 s behind the boat that day. I think I made 40% of my attempts vs 0 for 100s behind my tige. I would say driving the boat when weighted for goofy was better as visibility was much better because you are on the low side when listed. Regular side wasn't as much of a difference.

I also think it's a better skim style wave gated. I also was able to ride out my first 360 on a skim style the same day. I think Duffy said before that there is almost push in the flats, I would agree in that it's much more forgiving trying to find the wave completing a 360.

His gate also was parallel with the hull so it didn't have much drag on the boat vs your typical surf gate style mod.

I do think it would be cool to have the flexibility of a gated wave or a listed wave. I wouldn't want to install a surf device that prevented me from running a great listed wave. If it gave me more flexibility on what and how we ride, I would be all for it.

My Tige surf system solved. I could actually build a system like this fairly easily if I had a spare VX to cut holes in. Use stainless "surf tabs" with stainless hinge. Cut a hole through the vx plate for the hydraulic ram. Ideally recess the VX so that the plate lays flush with the VX when retracted.

I'm guessing what you are going to see is a modified AVX that is split in the middle and does exactly what you are showing except one side of the VX will move and not a tab underneath.

...which was my suggestion the very first day I saw the AVX.

This is definitely the way they should go. I haven't personally seen a AVX in action or seen how far down it goes but from everything I read the range of movement is not much. They just need the 1 tab to go low enough to start the delay of water from one side and that's it. Could be epic.

                Basically, GIANT trim tabs.

I had similar thoughts to this as well as the idea featured on this thread. I believe either would b an improvement. I actually like the idea of the tab recessed into the Vx vs a split AVX because the re-alignment of the 2 sides could become an issue.

Wouldn't a recesses trim tab essentially just force a list under motion? Isn't that what some of the surf tabs do? I do understand the delayed convergence is different. Seems easy.

VX is too large to split and control form side to side.. Makes it worse than a standard boat!
