    Hydrofoil Video

    http://vimeo.com/111817865

Every August for the last few years a group of us get together for a few days of foiling and other social activities. This event attracts riders with all level of skills from us beginners to the pros. Here is this years video from our last flyin at Pine Lake, in Alberta. Video credit goes to one of our local riders.

    Hope you enjoy.

Pretty cool vid. Every time I see guys out on a foil I start thinking about getting one. I'm just not sure if my body could handle all the falls while learning how to ride it. Awesome stuff to watch though.

The more advanced riders definitely feel the pain. I am just a beginner and I am amazeded at how low impact the crashes are. The design if the foil helps reduce the carnage. Where you from in Sask?

Little town close to the AB border called Burstall. See your from Swift. You ever go to that lake with Duncairn Dam? I think it's called Reid Lake. We keep thinking about giving it a try but I don't know of anyone every going there for anything but to fish.

Man I just see spinal and head injuries from really shredding with these things......you are saying no? They are spectacular to see in the hands of experts. I really think the sensation would be something to feel.

Maybe...the more vids that pop up the more I search for foils. This could end badly for my checkbook!

The dude who let go of the handle at 4:17 has some big kahunas. If you lose the rope on a front flip, bad things happen. Nice video.

I would much rather take a good solid beating on my foil than a faceplant on my wakeboard. Once I got to where I was not landing on my head, I was much happier.

I did not announce it here....but at the end of October, for some stoopid reason, I kept my arm out wide on a fall, the force pulled my arm back hard and tore my Pectoralis Major off of the bone on my upper arm. Now I have 3 little anchors and a bunch of permanent suture holding it together. But that injury was really a freak accident. So no push ups or foiling for me for 6 months.

The worst foiling injury I have heard of is a compression fracture of the spine. That happens when you basically land flat on your back traveling 25 MPH, and the force is transmitted up the foil, through the seat and to your back that is straight in line.

I have only been in the sport for a few years, but I have ridden with the best of the best, Ben Fern, Jake Bradley, Geno Yauchler, Shannon Pope, the Narrans brothers and a few others as well as local riders that are really, really good. What I here from them is the biggest injuries are to the shoulders and ribs as talltigeguy has said. Most of the accidents are freaks. These guys also, wear many pieces of protective gear while riding.

I work for the Health Region and spend time on the road between Maple Creek and Leader. As for Duncarin Dam no we do not go there, terrible boat launches un less the have been improved. We boat at the Sask Landing, more space, cleaner water.

That is Andrew Pilkinton, he makes those look so easy. Very cool rider to watch.

I wondered who that was, I had not seen him. I know there was some chatter about how exciting it was to have him back. He had not been riding for the last 10 years or so. He was killing it on the foil long before the technology had advanced to where it is now. There are some older videos of him, essentially showing Jake Bradley how it was done at the time.

I don't believe he had rode much before event at Pine Lake in August. He did however keep up to the other guys. Everyone spoke real high about him. Al Lewin was there as well. He was the one in the video doing the slow submarine tricks in the video.

My schedule hasn't allowed me to attend the past two years despite having family on Pine Lake. I'm going to work to attend next year and see this first hand.

                          The video is top notch.

You have to make it, One of the best events around. Great group of guys put it together. From start to finish you won't find a better event to hone your existing skills and to learn new ones. We had all the top riders this year who spend hours coaching and giving helpful pointers and rumour has it they are all coming back.
