    Mercruiser re-manufacturing warranty

I spoke to a mercruiser dealer today about buying a re-manufactured (by Mercruiser) Bobtail engine assembly. He informed me that it had to be installed by a "Mercruiser certified" shop to have coverage under their warranty program.

Can anyone confirm this, I was planning on putting it in myself

    Thanks,, mike

I can easily see that being a warranty nightmare if a private party installed it. They would claim any failure was your fault, regardless of the circumstance or if you have proven skills. I can't confirm it, but it does not surprise me at all.
    Be excellent to one another.

X2..sounds about right to me having worked at dealerships. Its a way to protect themselves and also generate revenue for their dealers. I know PCM also requires authorized dealer installs for warranty. Not sure about Indmar.

Not so but it does help to have documentation. We're not Mercruiser certified and the most recent issue I ran into was with Sun Country Marine in Newport Beach who sold the motor to my customer and said "3 year warranty if we install it but only 1 year warranty if your mechanic does it." He had us do it anyway. Mercruiser's standard warranty is 1 year and you can buy or have included in your purchase from a Mercruiser dealer ONLY the 3 year plan. There is no clause regarding installation by a certified Mercruiser technician.
