best place to buy Mercruiser Bobtail

Time for a new engine(rebuilt), it seems that the Mercruiser Factory reconditioned engine is a good choice, they are offering a 3 yr warranty on a replacement bobtail engine. I am replacing the 350 mag mpi on our 2001 21v rider's edition.

I understand that the long-block is rebuilt and much of the dress items are new with this package from Mercruiser.

Does anyone have suggestions in the Houston area, (or otherwise to be shipped) to get an engine. The List price is a bit higher then a price one dealer gave, but I wanted to tap the Tige knowledge base before pulling the trigger.

This is a 383 mag mpi, 350 crankshaft horsepower, 3 year warranty, $9515. The 350mag is a little more difficult to find but its price should be around $7000 with exhaust manifolds and risers. DO NOT BUY ANY ENGINE OR CYLINDER HEAD FROM FIRST MATE MARINE!!! Their engine building and machining are an absolute joke. More than one of my customers has made that mistake and paid dearly for it. Buy ONLY genuine Mercruiser or Quicksilver remanufactured engines, the key is in the machining and due diligence in the cylinder head manufacturing process that none of the other builders do because it costs too much. I say this because the above website also sells non-Mercruiser long blocks, short blocks and cylinder heads. All their bobtail engines are from Mercruiser factory though.
