Kinda looks like a snorkel in the toilet, nice. You got the point, obviously, and either installation is totally acceptable. Ive been trying to post a pic of a motor we pulled today with bad exhaust installation but I'm not that good so please stand by.

What is the durability reputation for this type of Ultra muffler on our boats?

Ooops, I went to town on the thing
Well, that didn't take much convincing, did it? I am only bleeding from 3 or 4 places and sweating like a lady of the night in church, but IT IS OUT. BOOM!!
It wasn't what I would describe as easy. I just simply cut the hose between the riser and the muffler, then was able to lift the muffler down pipes out of the rubber 90s down by the exhaust outlet (using super expensive Boat Candy seat conditioner as lube--couldn't climb out of locker to get something else LOL). Then began the spatial orientation puzzle session, but I weaseled it out sideways. It was holding a lot of water--I could see how a sudden stop could wash some water back into the motor if you were super unlucky. Good riddance, silly muffler.
Well, she GONE now. Time to reverse those risers, as the new found real estate is gonna get FILLED UP batteries. Chpthril--the ballast dimensions may change yet again my man. Sorry, but I just cannot stop myself. I think this is the best route though! Thanks for being patient with me!
You guys are the bomb, thanks for baiting me into this!

Man Dakota, I've got to hand it to you! If you want to change things you get after it. I like it, gutty!! I've had to tackle a few things on my boat and I figure the guys on here will walk me though it and they have. Keep up the posts for posterity, you never know who'll be next in line to do what you're doing.

Just remember the drop!!! I would also suggest Stainless Marine exhaust manifolds for small block chevy for this and most other applications. More expensive but no possibility of water weeping through the gasket at the joint, it's plumbed externally and they'll last the life of the boat and then some (I run them on my Vessel Assist boat). However, as Stingreye just found out, they don't make exhaust systems for the LS motors (6.0L).Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

Will this be acceptable?

And finally, wow that stainless stuff is amazing. Super expensive, but damn that is nice stuff! My manifolds and risers are in good shape (I think). Its a 128 hr boat, freshwater only in Lake of Ozarks. I am sure hoping its not rusted out!Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like bananas!

Now I think I understand what you are saying--is there too much forward "horizontal" run coming out of these risers in this plan?Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like bananas!

Dakota you're correct, there's a possibility of too much horizontal (boat forward) run with not enough drop between the mixing elbow (riser) exit and the first 90* down pipe. Upon initial acceleration you could ingest water as it sloshes boat aft from the force of taking off. Also, I think those manifolds and risers you have are aluminum, could you post some pictures to confirm? The gaskets you'll need are available at marineenginedepot.com and are part number 283363 and are sold individually.Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
