I'll be there with a bunch of 14-15 year old young men from my church group on July 13-15. We'll be in Navajo canyon and will be making a large sandhill slide with 100 feet of visqueen(sp?) and a big water pump. If any of you see me, come say hi. I'll be sure to post pics.

So how was your trip last weekend to Powell? We'll be going out this Thursday.

My trip was great. There was a fair amount of debris in navajo canyon. I thought I was good at avoiding it until I was pulling a boarder and heard a sickening THUNK! and at first thought a bolt came out of the tower. The whole boat vibrated with the noise. I never saw a piece of wood before or after, but ever since I have a small vibration in my boat, most noticeable with accelerating hard. I looked at the prop with a pair of goggles on and couldn't see or feel a defect, but I suspect one of my blades is now out of balance. I can't think of what else it could be. It ran great for the rest of the time. I have yet to look at it out of the water as that it was 110 degrees when we pulled out so I got home as quick as I could.

My sorry traditional style anchor didn't hold my boat worth crap even in a mild breeze unless I had the rope 50 feet out in just 20 feet of water AND I had to let the rear swing free. Sounds like it is time to try the Box anchor some on this site are so fond of.

I'll post a pic of the slide we made when I get a chance.

That's awesome! Sorry to hear about the boat, though.

That's so cool! Did I miss how you got water up the hill and on the slide? Ballast pump maybe?

The pump is a gas generator hooked to 100 feet of fire hose, so it was a large volume of water, I think that you could do it with a lot less, but it was nice to have so much to wash the sand away. One guy I went with is a contractor and had it for something to do with work.

I think you can see the guy holding the hose at the top of the hill in one of the pics and the generator is sitting next to the water in the other pic.

I have a box anchor and if I am in 20 feet of water I put out between 40' of rope. Box anchors need 2 to 1 scope while traditional anchors are ussually 5 - 7 to 1 scope. I have only had a problem with the box anchor is I use less than the 2 to 1.

                    Slide looks like fun!
                    Let it be!!!

                      Jim,

Thanks for your thoughts on that. I am probably expecting too much from my anchor. I need to repeat the anchoring 101 class. It was in about 20 feet of water with 35-40 feet of rope out (2:1) and it wouldn't hold. I put out 50+ and it held better. The problem with Lake Powell is that if I went out any further, the water would get deep very fast.

I think I'll start another thread on proper anchoring skills.

                        Tall,

Are you using a Chain for your anchor Rode?

That's another question. I have been using a dock buddy (bungee) instead of a chain.

Alright, I will start the other thread.

Just spent two days on Lake Powell, it took three and a half days to drive from North Carolina. The water was pretty rough so we did not venture more than 5 miles from Wahweap marina. The swimming and scenery were fantastic, but there was a 30% chance of thunder storms so we did not want to risk an hour boat ride up the lake for calm water. I did talk to a couple of Tige owners who were pretty cool.

                              Where was the slide erected?

I wish I could go to Lake Powell for almost a month!

Slide was in Navajo canyon. Navajo is mostly sandstone cliffs until you get about 5 miles in. There is a very large sandy beach there. We were on the very west end of the beach camping in tents and under the stars. The slide was next to where we camped.

I beleive the state record striper is about 40 pounds at Lake Powell, maybe that's it!!!! When I was a fisherman, I could never catch a fish, now they are dying to get to me!

                                TIP,
Sorry the weather was unfriendly, but you were smart to not get caught in an afternoon thunder/wind/rain storm, they have sunk many boats. Unfortunately, the better part of the lake starts upstream at mile marker 10 or so. Did you go around Lone Rock?

BTW, I do have a blade on my prop that is about 1/4 inch bent.
