    Dealer oil spill

My 2012 RZR is still under warranty so I had the dealer do an oil change when they installed the VX as it's done under the 360 service plan. I should have passed and done it my self.

Oil is up to the full indicator on the dip stick & the oil filter is tight I'm thinking the dealer dropped the old filter & didn't clean it up or....

Here is how it looks... It went from showroom fresh to a disaster.

    What would you do?
Any suggestions to get it back to showroom clean.

I'd take it back and have them clean that mess up!!! Thats completely unacceptable from anyone, more less a dealer.

Id start by having a civil conversation with the dealer principal. Could be an unrelated leak, of as you say, some oil spilled and the tech may not have realized the amount. Give them the chance to make it right.

I may be mistaken but doesn't the front end of the v-drive spin? If so, based on that picture I would secure that wire away from the movement to save some grief later one...

You need to get the technicians to read the tips for changing oil on TO. They wouldn't make such a mess then. Like mentioned above give the dealer a chance to make it right. Be calm in your discussion of the issue. You need to clarify what you feel would make it right and work with the dealer towards a mutual satisfaction for a future relationship.

I think yes keep a calm head. But wow. that is a hell of a mess they made. I screwed the **** out of my oil change yesterday, (helpful hint. dont think you can turn the oil filter a 1/4 while running to get the model no. best bad idea I had) anyhow still did not make this big a mess. good luck on a resolution.

That would make me sick to my stomach. Even if they cleaned up what you can SEE, I bet some of that sludge got under the fuel tank, for sure under the v-drive/tranny/engine, etc. Portions of that will be showing up in the bilge water forever unless it is ALL cleaned out. This isn't a case of "dump a bunch of dishwashing detergent and warm water in there and bounce it around for a while". To get back to your "showroom fresh" will likely require some disassembly. There are some bilge cleaning chemical around but I don't know how well they work. Please keep us posted... I still can't get over it.

That is really just tape that holds the ballast hoses on top of the fuel tank? how long will that last?

The oil is grodie! You will be having oily bilge water for the rest of your life. I seem to always spill some from my filter, despite having tried some of the tips I found on the forum, but putting a towel underneath and then wiping it up as soon as it happens seems to do the trick.

Dealer said the mechanic is no longer with lime lake marina and apologized. They thanked me for my business. They are 4 hours round trip so hardly worth the time but on the other hand... This is a **** mess. I'm thinking Oil absorbant towels to soak it all up. Few rounds with beers in between! Then Spray down with simple green, some elbow grease and a rinse while on a hill to drain it out is the plan. Tank is full so I may pull it in the spring.

Good lesson... Trust & verify basic services are completed properly. Go over everything that was done. Never assume just because a dealer will allow their employee to work on your boat... they are competent.

Get as much out as you (or dealer can). Spray simple green or even better a product made for getting oil out of a bilge. I used this on my Tiara at one point:

Put it in bilge, add water, let it slosh around, pump it out. Rinse, repeat....

This is some of the best advice I have heard on a boat forum, EVER..thats no joke. The stories I could tell if not for fear of retaliation. Also don't assume the manufacturers are any better!!

The one time I had a shop work on my boat (transmission replacement under warranty), I spent a lot of time with the shop manager, and then the technician, talking about what needed to be done and what was going to happen and so forth. I helped get things started and make room for their work by removing my ballast pumps and hoses and such once the boat was in the service bay, while the staff watched me, and I talked the whole time about how clean the boat was and how I maintain everything carefully. My goal was to impress upon them that I knew what I was talking about and that I would check their work.

Then I dropped by halfway through the service "just to check on things".

When I picked up the boat, the technician actually walked out to the parking area with me (the boat had been pulled out of the service bay), opened everything up, and proudly showed me his work and how spotless the boat still was. That's when I knew the mission had been accomplished.

A little extra time spent with the people who will be working on your equipment can pay big dividends.

Had a transmission leak in my old Z1 when it was new. Wiped every I could get at with oil absorbent pads then laid 4 in the bilge and put about 6" of water in the bilge and drove it around on the trailer. That got about 99% of it and I put some fresh absorbent pads in the next few times and it was completely clean. Unhook you batteries so the bilge doesn't pump it out and drain it onto absorbent pads.
