Swim Platform Removal

So I've always just worked on the assumption that the swim platform was designed to pivot down for storage. It just made sense. But have you ever tried it? Well I did.

I removed the Vx as that is clearly in the way. I removed the middle bolts and pulled the pin. I then grunted and grimaced for a couple minutes to get the platform up out of its seated position. Then I tipped it down......

It hit the ground.



Ummm did anyone think about this? The whole point is to easily allow us to store these things in the garage. Note that my boat is 23'10' while my garage is 23'. So I assumed a quick and easy pivot would do the trick, then back it in.

No luck. They add this pivot option... for what? What's the point? It doesn't add anything. I next tried lifting the platform up and hung it on the higher bracket and that got it off the ground... but still. This thing is far too unwieldy to make this a regular occurrence.



The other issue is now it's resting the on the Taps plate.



I realize this nay be petty but I bought this boat with the assumption a smart engineer had this figured out. In the end I now need a major garage renovation.

I have never heard Tige claim the platform had a pivot/hinge option or that it is designed to do what you are trying to do. They say it removable, but never claimed it was hinged or pivots down for storage. Various manufacturers have made platforms to do what you are wanting over the years, but Tige was never one of them.

How can you be upset with them that your boat won't do something they never designed it to do?

x2. I've never even heard of anyone suggesting that a swim platform should pivot like that until this thread. The fact that it doesn't have the clearance to the ground, and risks damaging other components like the TAPS plate, seems like a pretty good confirmation that this isn't a feature. Sorry if someone misled you into thinking it was.

x3 - I think the design of the "pivot option" is to aid in removing and re installing. I can't tell 100% from your pic but on mine, I have to remove it and install it (plus I have the FAE) every time I go in and out of the garage, but the pivot allows you to not hit the transom if you pull it straight up. Having it there to re install makes it easier to set it in and then use that as you install the bolts. Can you image trying to hold it in place and install the bolts without it having something to rest on. Having it this way allows for one person to be able to remove or install it by themselves. @dandy - we've had amazing weather since the snow-tember storm in early September. +21 today. I winterized during the storm because I have to store outside, and I was off travelling for most of the month anyways.

Maybe I just believed something I wanted to believe. Not sure. But that thing is so heavy (Vx too) it's not a good idea to remove alone. It's not really Tige's fault but it would sure help if they engineered in the grab handles or something to make this a one man job. I'm a big man and I have a lot of trouble with this design.

I'm in the process of expanding my garage to fit the boat. I need to find that 10"! I might be crazy and put a hole in the rear wall to fit the platform and Vx. It's far too cumbersome to remove it each time. I know how lazy i am and 10 minutes of jiggery pokery is enough to kill a day of boating.

I'm expanding my garage to 3 bay from 2 and will need to find that 10" but I'll post that in a different thread when I get my designs done.

Totally agree it is not a one man job, especially if you have the VX. No way I would own a boat with a VX if I had to remove/ install every time in and out of the garage. Take a look at the pictures with the AVX..it doesn't come off at all!! Not easily anyway, its not designed to be removed.
