What should us Californians be doing this winter?

Hello all, so as summer is slowly ending for all of us and winter getting closer I've noticed many of you talking about winterization processes and necessities to make sure our babies are safe during the winter. However for some of us, such as in California, "winter" means a low of 50 degrees on the colder days of the winter, an occasional drizzle that lasts for about 15 minutes, and some cloudy sky's every other day. In other words not much of a winter at all as many of you experience. My Z1 is stored in my garage, temps never get lower than 55/60 degrees, and boat will never see the outdoors until it's time to go again. So with this said what do you all recommend for someone in my position to keep my boat healthy and safe during the down time for the 5/6 months that it'll be stored.

Of course the batteries will be hooked up to a battery maintainer.

    What else?

    Thanks guys!

Pray for rain so we can use our boats next year

Serious question, because I know very little about your part of the US. If the temps don't get any lower than 55 or 60 why wouldn't you boat year round? I know I would.

I would put stabilizer in the fuel and jack up the tires so they are off the ground.

If you haven't tried the local lakes in the off season (Perris and Elsinore are the two that come to mind), its really a different world than during the season. You and a couple fisherman, you would be shocked how few people get on the water. Even if you don't do watersports, pack a lunch get out for a relaxing day on the water

@retox1, we get out almost year round. A simple wetsuit and you are good to go. Water temps will hit the 50s in Jan/Feb time. I think for many Southern California boaters its a seasonal summer thing. They do soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring, and boating in the summer. Also, Southern California has mostly small crowded lakes so a lot of people elect to store their boats in Nevada and Arizona and travel out there to use them (and avoid that ANNOYING ANNUAL PROPERTY TAX BILL).

That being said, I LOVE the off season here. Its much less stressful on the water, at the docks, and launching and retrieving. September/October are my favorite months of the year.

Hey all thanks for the replies. Its funny because many of these replies are asking why we dont use our boat year round, and as i sit here thinking about that the only real answer I have is because here in CA we are spoiled. 50/60 is COLD! haha But maybe ill try it out looks like "STINGREYE" is really a fan of the lakes out here during the "off season" Maybe ill give it a try. However like "ERICU" said a good winter around here wouldnt hurt, we are in desperate need of rain or I am not so sure we will have many lakes left over come summer again.

Thanks for all the info guys, so looks like if I do decide to store the boat I should: put in some fuel stabilizer, hook up the battery maintainer, jack up the trailer tires, luve up the rudder housing, and drain the drivetrain<-- (how do i do that???!!!)

What motor is in your Z1? If its the PCM 409, its half closed cooling so antifreeze is in the block (if you have a heater, it should be anti-freeze on that motor too) but you still have transmission cooler, V-Drive, heat exchanger and exhaust manifolds.

                      Here are the manuals

I think your 2013 would be this one:

There is a water flow diagram that should show you where everything is.

I have actually heard that California leads the nation in cracked blocks from not winterizing but I always assumed that wasn't around here.

And next year, you have to hit up the reunion at Mead! Teamallen, Chpthril and H2O Addiction from this thread all came.

Awesome We go to Vail Lake in Temcula and we retrieve and launch and the concrete is now completely out of the water. Still easy to find 30+ foot depth water but.... not fun to retrieve the boat.

Drop that thing in marine stadium and enjoy some of the best glass you will ever see. On our old tige, we clicked in about 200 hours one winter. No need for winterizing.
