    Surf help of 2014 rz2

So I just got our boat out on the water today, it has the surf package on it, so I filled the 200 up front surf side, and had a person sitting there, then filled the back all the way and then put my 750 bag on the surf side seats, so had about 1000lbs on that side, also had 1 person sitting on that side. I tried between 10.8 to 12 and taps at 3 and 4 and I just couldn't feel any push, couldn't throw the rope, I kept pumping the board, putting all my weight on my front foot and just couldn't find any sweet spot where I just cruised. I have a lake wake surf board, so it is fast, fast enough that I could throw the rope on my old Yamaha 212x and go rope less.

Now it has been awhile since I surfed, and I had my feet about shoulder width apart, tried sliding forward and backwards on the board, but still could never feel any push, I do plan on upgrading the back sacs, but I had about 1000lbs on that side I feel like I should be able to throw the rope with all of that. Now I've seen tons of vids of people surfing on rz2, so I know the boat can do it but what suggestions do you have for me.

Should add that I also do have the convex vx on the boat

I have read that the CVX makes the boat behave like a bigger boat and needs more weight to get a big wave, but you should have plenty of weight to rope less. I would look under the front seats of your surf package ballast and make sure you have two different sacs. My basic ballast has a U shaped bag under the bow for a claimed 400lbs. I fill the u shaped sac completely, 250lb hardtank on surf side and about 900lbs above the hard tank in my W719 sac and I have a great wave. I usually have a few adults sit on the surf side too so my rub rail is at the waterline. I usually ride around 11.2-11.6 mph and taps at 4-5, but that varies of course with people weight and weather conditions.

If I were you I would start with as much weight in the surf side corner, keep taps a constant 4 and play with speed. Slowly increase speed from 10-13 mph in .2 increments and wait for the speed to stabilize before bumping it up. When you find a speed that gives you the desires wave shape then you can adjust taps to make the wave taller with a higher taps setting or longer with a lower taps setting. Once you find that sweet spot get out on the wave and give your driver some easy hand signals to speed up or down and taps up or down to dial it in. It might take some time to dial in the wave but once you find the sweet spot you'll know it and you'll love it.

Got a 2013 rz2 we fully load the front which is 800 and rear surf side which is 600 and put another 350 under the seat with a couple of people and the wave barrels 10.6 to 12 mph is good, taps 3 to 4 , I weigh about 220 lbs and ride an idol short board no problems no vx so you should be able to surf further from the back of boat

we have a 12 RZ2--no VX. 400lb u sac up front and upgraded to the 1100 pound sacs. Regular side I surf around 10 MPH (im 225) and goofy side, wife surfs around 9.8 with same weighting. Taps for both sides between 3-5 depending on people in boat and speed. We rarely have more than 4 people in the boat and can get a great wave just with one person in there. Both can go ropeless with no prob. Took awhile to fiddle around to get it dialed.

I have a 2014 rz2 with vx and pro ballast from tige in it and we put the Enzo's in each rear locker and we run 10.2 mph to 10.6 with taps at 5 or 6 and my wave is massive and super long. We fill both fronts at full and surf side full and non surf side 25percent give that a go and let us know.image.jpg

I was just cruising on this above pic and it was 10.2mph at 5 on taps that's were the wife likes to ride I prefer a longer wave so I run at 10.4-10.6 at 4 on taps let us know

Is it possible that he has the old brackets for his VX? I know someone whose dealer was not up to speed on that.

Very possible.. When my boat got here and I took it out for the first time I wasn't happy I slammed it with ballast and had no better results, and that was after the whole bracket thing was suppose to be fixed, long story short I got them fixed in 2 days. But he may wanna check for sure.

I'll try that this weekend. We're the wrong brackets installed on the 2014? I thought that was a 2013 issue? Also I didn't put any weight on the non surf side maybe the boat need more weight with the vx

The vx likes a lot of weight in the bow and for whatever reason my 2014 showed up with the wrong brakets on it but I quickly got that taken care of. After having the new brackets on it was awesome absolutely no comparison.

I went out and measured the vx, it looked to be between 4-4.5" using the measurement that ragboy used in that tread, so I think it's good.

Do you think I need to add off side weight with the vx,maybe not enough with the 600 in the back corner and a 750 full on surf side seats. I also only have 200 on each side up front, should it fill both sides?

Yes, fill the bow 100%. Historically, the RZ hull did not like off side ballast, but the VX may have had an effect on that. Try a little and see, wont hurt.

My RZ2 is better with the bow ballast full as well. It's not much off side ballast since the bow is more narrow compared to the stern, and it helps with overall boat weight which it needs for the CVX to do its magic.

Put all passengers in the rear on the surf side (if your rub rail is at water line, then you can let someone sit in the bow). Add rear weight -- Consider a custom sack for the rear locker (1000 lb sack + 250 internal tank). If water patrol is not an issue, have one passenger sit on the transom seat. The boat should list far enough that the rub rail is at or near the water line when going 10.5-12.5mpH. Lower speeds gives you more wave height, higher speed gives you a longer pocket. IF you are at the rub rail, then you can add off side weight (but not before).

Once upon a time, I never ran off side bow weight but now I fill bow surf side full and off side bow about 50%. Off side bow weight does take away some list but the benefit of longer pocket size is worth it.

TAPS 1-2 will give you a mellow transition (Skim style). TAPS 3-4 will give you a nice wall (surf style). Some people run TAPS 5+ but on our RZ2 it makes the wave sloppy and shortens the pocket too much.

Re surf board, if you are at the top of the weight limit for the board, move your back foot a few inches away from the back of the pad. If you are near the bottom of the weight limit, get that rear foot back as far as it will go. Front foot should be as close to toe edge of board as you can.
