    Amps and Subs

We are looking to add some Subs and maybe another Amp to our boat system but had not had any experience with them before. I was just curious about which ones I should get and which ones are the best. What would be the best quality, nicest sounding, etc. Amp and Subs available to buy and where could I get them? If anyone has any suggestions or pics of theirs that would be great...

here's 3 amps that are in my opinion great sounding and high quality:

    jlaudio: 300/4 or 450/4

    diamond audio: D5 600.4

    precision power: DCX 600.4

you won't go wrong with any of those amps. plenty of power, and very clean.

        david,
there are a lot of places to buy those amps. Check ebay if you want to. A couple sites on the net with good stuff is www.audio-n-more.com, www.crutchfield.com, www.infinitecaraudio.com, you can also try www.chadwicks.8k.com (good prices). Or just go to your local car audio shop and they will have, although it will usually be a higher price.
As far as subs go, it depends on what you want.
Best sub IMO JL 10W7 or JL 12W7, but they are EXPENSIVE.
If you don't want to pay a ton I would look at JL 10 or 12W6's, JL 10 or 12W3's. I have heard that the new infinity kappa perfect subs are pretty good but have not heard them personally.
        Hope this helps.

            David,
what kind of system are you looking at building? It would be easier to give you direction knowing what you want to spend and such.

We are wanting to put in a great sounding system with tower speakers (we already have 2 titan bullet speakers), a nice sub or 2, and an amp(s) that could power all of it with it sounding good. Right now we have the factory amp and I think a Kenwood one or some other descent one. Bottom line, I want a nice system altogether!

                david,
if you want to power a sub and say you get 2 more tower speakers for a total of 4, you will want to get a 5 channel amp. A 5 channel amp will have a dedicated channel for a sub and then 4 more channels for your tower speakers. If you want the other speakers inside the boat amped I would just buy another 4 channel amp.
MTX makes 5 channel amps and so does JL.
It is not that hard to run more amps, just use a distribution block.
Take the power cord out of the amp already installed, put that into a distribution block, then you can run multiple amps. You would do the same for the ground wire.

I run my system at a 2ohm load....I have a 4 chanel amp and running 5 speakers. 4 on the front 2 channels at 125w ea and then bridged the back channels for 250w directly to the sub....this system maxes out the power from the amp I use a fosgate punch and set the front on highs and the rear on lows thru the in amp crossovers. I plan on putting 4 tower speakers this summer and adding a 2channel amp for that. I picked up the amp and sub at ultimate elctronics on sale - last years models for cheap. depending on how the factory set up your system ie 4ohm vs 2ohm you may be able to rewire and get mor power there itself and then add what you need after that.

you should run a dedicated amp for your sub. IT will sound better and you will like it better. I used to split a multi channel amp to my sub and other speakers, but I will only use a dedicated amp for my sub. YOu can push the sub and amp harder that way and not worry about anythingelse. Also, if you can afford ppi(precision power) you will never go back. I have it in my car, and I'll never buy another amp. It is powering two orion xpl dual voice coil at 2 ohm and it is turned all the way down as well is my head unit and it's so LOUD!!! I love it
