Surfset.jpgIMG_2628.jpgNo need to cut the swim platform down or add a surf gate or surf flap etc. That boat makes an amazing surf wake by just adding ballast.
Fill that rear locker to the brim with a sac, preferably a L shaped sac that runs under the seat a ways, through a good 800 lbs in front locker, 400 in opposite front, and about 400 in opposite rear locker. The wake will be long, clean and flat out amazing.

In case you are keeping score, or still on the fence, I have an 08 22Ve and love my surf wave on both sides. Chpthrl custom sacs on both sides with the 250 lb hard tanks as well. I agree with the earlier comment that you are better off with no factory ballast when adding surf ballast to this boat. It will cut the cost by 1/3 and you will have 80 lbs of battery in place of 250 lbs of ballast on the regular side. on the goofy side, maybe worth it for the extra 150 lbs.
Here is the link to my build.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences and the pictures. It is clear that spending 3-8K on my current boat will bring lots of rewards and would meet my needs for next 2-3 years. From your post, I see that I need ballast anyway or will loose out on the trade even more. My swim platform needs replacement as well. Purchasing the Z3 would cost 30-40K after trade and taxes etc. The sales tax alone would pay for a ballast system. Also the yearly depreciation on the 09 is much better then on a new boat. I think this closing point is that if it did purchase the z3, I know I would be obsessed with the new boat (cleaning, drinks, break in period, new engine to learn, etc) to a point I would not be much fun to the family. I am sure some of you have this problem as well
