I paid around $500 for a marine inspection and water test if thats what you are asking. I have heard others get it cheaper depending on the area.

So sent and saw it. Boat looked great only thing was this rust, now he said that is normal bc the owners lived by the beach. There is no rust on the engine or the exhaust manifolds.

I worked at a dealer and I have never seen one rusted like that. That boat was ran in SALT!! If you are OK with that, then move forward but if not I'd move on. There is no way just the trans would be rusted if it was because the owner lived by the beach. Everything would have rust like that if it was due to "salt air". The trans is rusted because its the lowest point in the bilge and thats where the salt water hit. Thats not just one time in salt either. Thats consistent running in salt. Imagine what the inside of the motor looks like. Just a thought, because if they didn't wash down the bilge they probably didn't flush the motor either.

The engine is a closed loop system so there is no way for salt to get in since it is the Z409 engine. There is not and rust on the engine or exhaust manifolds,

Exhaust manifolds are still raw water cooled IIRC, plus exchanger

How do i look inside the exhaust or heat exchange? What are the major concerns with salt water use? The boat only has 57 hours on it.

Boardman, I am with you if he's not getting a big discount, find another boat. Didn't someone mention some left over Z3's in Arizona?

                2) If he had the PCM 409, isn't that half closed loop so the block SHOULD be ok? The exchanger, V-Drive, and Trans might be the only issue.

Bigdog, there is a user on here called Boatwakes (also a sponsor of the Mead reunion). If you are still interested in that boat, he maintains/services/repowers/etc on ocean boats in harbors in Southern California. I don't know if he does pre-sales inspections but it might be worth reaching out to him and see what it would cost for an inspection. He could likely give you a pretty informed opinion about the boat. Salt boats scare away a lot of buyers so my guess is that for an informed buyer, you MIGHT be able to get a killer deal. Boatwakes fixed my boat when I had trouble and I can't say enough about his expertise. He is also a fellow tige owner

My guess is that boat was used at Carlsbad lagoon. I was hoping for you it spent its whole life at Big Bear. For what its worth, there is some truth that things will corrode more quickly at the beach. The condensation every morning is salty.

I was slow! Yup closed loop 409! With catanium exhaust I don't have a clue how the riser's work or would be replaced. Sounds expensive.

Just talked to the dealer again, said he just called the owner of the boat and he swears it was never in the ocean, which looks hard to believe however the trailer looks good, there is a little rust on the front swing away but none on the back of the trailer which i think would be covered in rust if it was used ocean frequently. The boat is down to 63k and has 57 hours on it and 1 year left of warranty and has over 3500lbs of ballast on it, 2 rev 8's, the stock 12" wet sounds woofer, wet sounds interiors, posident carpet, docking lights, underwater light, interiors light off of the tower, clamping board racks, surf bimini, and convex vx system.

Think it has mentioned here before but Tige does not transfer warranties.

Only way that is possible is if the boat was never registered. Tige may offer some sort of transfer fee but I don't believe they do. I would have to look at the fine print again...

i just asked the dealer and he said they do transfer it, the hull warranty is $500 to transfer but the bow to stern and service will transfer. He is an authorized tige dealer, so what i have to go off of.

I would get that from Tige. I learned the hard way and just trying to save you the same trouble.

For that price I would shop around. Plenty of nicer boats out there without the rust issues. If there is that much surface rust you could be opening up a can of worms when you get down the road. As far as warranty I would definitely call Tige directly on that as I didn't think anything other than a few year on the hull transferred. Here is a link to some boats that were up for grabs the other day maybe the dealer is willing to deal since they are carryover models. I'm sure there are many others out there also and these will come with a FULL warranty backed by TIGE.
