Buying used 2013 z3 owned by wakesurf company

So I am going to look at a used z3 that was owned the last two years by a wakesurf company. I haven't seen the boat yet, going on tues, what should I look for? Do pro riders take care of their boats or do they usually not care bc they get new boats every 2 years? Know this subjective but asking in sort of a general manner, not sure of the exact hours on the boat bc the battery was dead but they thought it had under a 100 but that is to be confirmed.

    Thanks for any replies!

Kind of like buying a new car. Look it over very well. Look at the gelcoat, trailer and overall condition. Ask lots of question about use, repairs, set and anything that comes to mind as you look at it. Look the interior over well. Lift and look into all hatches and storage areas. Check out the sound system and speakers. Wiggle the tower to make sure it is tight. Then if you like it take a water test. Highly important. Check to see everything is working. The Tige touch, stereo, taps, cruise ballast system. Does the cruise hold speed well? Check all gages and indicators. Turn hard to left and right and figure eight and all speeds. Is the steering tight and stiff? Does it need a steering cable soon.

Now if it only has 100 hours in 2 seasons that is good. Average is 100 hours/year. A lot of owners trade out every year or two.

    You will love the Z3.

True engine hours are stored by the engine ECM. Whats displayed on the helm, can be reset. I would have the ECM scanned to obtain the actual hours. I would approach it the same as if it was just a regular average joe owner seeing it. But, it is odd to have a "Pro" rider's 2 year old boat and only 200 hours.

He said under a 100 hours? For a wake surf company like you mentioned, that would about equal them being out of business. They'd never cover the cost of the boat running it 50 hours a year. Like said above the average Joe puts 50-100 a year on depending on length of season. We had a terrible year weather wise and were really busy with activities and still hit 50 hours. Schools easily put on 50 hours in a couple weeks. With the medallion system it takes the signal from the engine ECM. So even if the medallion box is replaced the hours sinc. up within a few minutes. Unless they have learned to cheat the computer the hours will show correct. Look the boat over well and know it probably spent its entire life loaded to the max. Condition will tell all as to how they cared for it. If the hours really do read that low I would have the ECM read to verify. Bottom line is the boat should be priced significantly lower than a comparable regular consumer boat. This is like buying a Crown Vic that was a police car versus one Grama and Grampa had.

I can tell you from working for a dealer that guys who run wake surf/ wakeboard school put on 250-500 per year even up here in the northern US. I saw a boat get 140 hours in just 7-8 weeks from a school. Under 100 hours in 2 years for a surf school would be extremely low.

It wasn't a school, it was a wake surf company, actually, it is the boat in the video of josh Kerr and chase hazen that tige shot, now not their boat, looks like it belonged to a company called evercarve, a wakesurf board manufacture. lot of google searching and Instagram to find this all out after I stumbled across that video and said oh ****! That's the same boat!

The only thing I know about the boat is it was left in big bear water over the summer and there was a heavy coat of Alger on the boat, that has been acid washed off, which I found is a common thing, scared me at first, and just needs to be waxed back up.

They have this boat in on concinment at my local dealers, just got it in last week or 2

Evercarve I believe is in Carlsbad, Find out if it was run at Carlsbad Lagoon or Mission Bay (Salt). With 100 hours, I am not sure its that big of a deal though.

If it was stored on the water at Big Bear, its at least a couple hours away from Carlsbad. So I can see them not using it as much as they intended.

Also, I have a 2004 24V with 8 hours on the clock..... my hour meter reset for the 3rd time in two years (amazingly it was correct when I bought it) I hate having to pull out the laptop to read the ecm to see if I need an oil change.

If it was stored in salt water that will corrode the inside of the motor.Be sure you have a marine survey done if that's the case.

This boat is being sold thru a dealer, what things should i ask him to show, besides hooking a computer up to the engine to double check the hours.

You can ask him to show anything you like, just keep in mind, hes rep'ing the seller. If you have reservations about the boat or do not trust your experience in looking over the boat, pay a 3rd party shop to look it over, such as a compression check.

the dealer is an authorized Tige dealer, so should I ask him to do these things? The boat still have 1 year left on its warranty.

                      Thanks for the insight!

Yes I would have them show the maintenance records as I'm sure they sold and serviced it from day one. They can scan ECM to show hours also at no cost. As far as warranty it won't transfer to you but the dealer might be able to help in that area. Never hurts to ask on any area. Being on consignment they could probably care less to sell as it doesn't net them that much money versus selling you a new one.

The boat has nothing left on the warranty to you. Tige warranty is only offered to the original owner, it is not transferable. The only thing transferable is the engine warranty thru PCM and I believe the lifetime hull warranty(becomes 10 years to second owner) thru Tige.

Pay someone to check it out... It is well worth the money.
