    Lake/waterfront property where to buy

Been doing some looking as I eventually want to purchase some lake or waterfront property and was curios if others have ever thought of it and or if you currently own a lake house whether it be a vacation spot or a full time residence?

Where would/did you purchase and why?

What is the year round water temp and is there a good ROI on the location?

We live on lakefront property in North Idaho and absolutely love it. However, it's not year-round watersports... the lakes here freeze over in the winter. That is because we also have awesome skiing at several world class resorts within an hour of our house! In other words, we have all four seasons and all of the opportunities and fun that go with them.

ROI is good, during the "housing crisis" the value of our house never went below what we paid for it and has bounced back nicely since.

Good luck in your search, it's a nice "problem" to have!

Lower Michigan usually has great 4 month summers, not this year we rarely had days of 80+ without rain

I live on Grand Lake in Oklahoma and love it. Prices here are good and the economy collapse had little affect on values here. You can own the water front and have your dock right in front. I have a 3 slip dock. Room for the Tige, the Ranger, PWCs and a 3o foot sailboat. All just a 100 feet from my back door.

My last boat came from the grand lake area and drove over many of the Oklahoma lakes on way to get it. They look excellent like keystone and Skiatook, just hate the fact that like Kansas can only be used 5-6 mo a yr. I will definitely keep grand in mind and will possibly visit it at some point.

We live on a lake in NC in the foothills of the Appalachian mtns so we have good views but our water isn't clear it's 60-70 ft deep but the water only has 6 ft visibility (it's dark green), but we have 7 months of warm weather and if you wear a wetsuit you could push 8. I think there is a trade off for water quality and rideable months. I have seen pics from northern states and canada with glassy water and snow peaks in the distance but I'm sure you can only ride comfortably for a couple months a yr. So I guess it's about priorities.
As far as return on investment, you can't go wrong with waterfront property as long as there is a sufficient population with supporting incomes in the area, most people like a good vaca and would love to own a piece of paradise.
Good luck! You will love it!
