    New boat prices

    After checking out the latest boats from multiple manufacturers, I'm really starting to question our search for a new boat. There a number of really nice looking boats out there with great new features, but spending $100-125K on a 23-24' boat?

    Our 2005 24V which is nicely optioned, but doesn't have factory ballast, cost around $50k new with trailer. I realize that was almost 10 years ago, but double the price (or more) seems pretty crazy. It is taking the cost of boating to a whole other level. Our boat has been paid off for years, is still in nice condition with about 220hrs, so I'm starting to wonder if I should just add an automated ballast system and save $90k.

    What do you guys think about the cost of new boats? Is it just the way it is to get the latest technology?

    They are getting ridiculous in price, partly because of new bling touchscreen options (10k price jump between 2009-2010 models with Tige touch). The value of the dollar has also taken a huge hit as the economy crashed and quantitative easing has been pumping billions into the money supply for the past few years.

      Nicely optioned 2014 Z3 was going for about $84k at our dealership. Malibu I was able to get them to around $87k on a 23 LSV.

        They are overpriced no doubt.

        Paid off 05 24V with only 220 hours? If I was in your shoes I would keep what you have. Your boat barely has any hours.

        I tell this to a lot of friends and family, it doesn't matter if your boat is an 2004 or 2014. Its the same experience. You're still with the same family and friends, youre still wakeboarding/surfing/tubing/etc, you're still enjoying the same music/atmosphere and having the same amount of fun. It maybe easier/more convenient on the newer boats but overall you're not missing out on anything.

          If you can easily afford it, why not? But for the majority of us, upgrading the components to your existing boat makes more sense.

          I was in the Dilemma of upgrading out rotting tige 2100v. The price range we were in put us in the 05-08 tige's, essentially your boat. My main requests were automatic ballast, cruise control, and closed cooling. Ended up raising the budget and bought a 12' axis a23 with LS3 salt edition etc. All in all, if I ended up with a 05' tige, I would have been just as happy as our 12' axis.

          Neither were remotely close to $100k. A lot of people would die for your boat. If it's in perfect shape, I would spend the coin on automatic ballast and cruise control, if it doesn't have it already. Just figure, that would be the same as 2 or 3 monthly payments on a new boat.

          Here's a funny story though, I bought the liquid force bro stock boat that is all stickered up and tricked out. Last time out in Havasu, there was a brand new g23 and xstar. Guess what boat caught everyone's attention. It surely wasn't those $100k boats haha.

            Along those same lines, a wrap would make it feel like a new boat for 4-5K. So if you need people to stare at you and say how awesome the boat looks...

              I also have an 05 24V but with 500+ hours on it and can't justify the cost of a new one....I know talltigeguy secretly wishes he still had his old 05 24V!

                Upgrade ballast, upgrade to perfect pass stargazer, and get a decadence mat (or sea deck). Heck, get the Sampson tower that Ericu put on his rz4☺ love my 24v. Even after spending a bunch of money, I be your 24v would depreciate less over the next 3-5 years and by then who knows what all the surf systems will look like.

                  To me, this is a big issue. I still feel like we're in the early stages of the wave making technologies, and that things will continue to develop quickly over the next 3-5 years. Who knows, in 5-10 years, we may be laughing at the fact that we used to pump thousands of pounds of water into our boats.

                    Add the ballast keep your current boat. That is what we finally decided for our setup. We can;t use the boat for half the year and so it was hard to justify. Good luck
