concerns with pulling wake boarders and surfer with my 2014 RZ2 stock engine

I have the 350 engine in my 2014 RZ2, we surf 95% of the time (5% tub or wake sledz) but last week I went and pulled my 1st wakeboarder (a semi pro here at the lake) and could barely get the boat on plane (both front's full with 25% in the rears and 5 people in the boat) and he was maybe 150lbs wet and everyone had to go to the front of the boat to get it to plane. This weekend I tried pulling a typical dad (just over 200lbs) and could only get the boat past 15mph once so he pretty much just got pulled behind with no wake and we only had 2 kids (both 8 years old) and 2 adults in the boat. Pretty embarrassing as they are well connected in the boat world and he warned me about buying Tige. At 1st I thought it was maybe the cruise control but I clicked it off and the engine revved liked no tomorrow but nothing past 15mph……and then today I had a teenager (140lbs) surfing and he asked me to see how fast he could surf behind my wave so I increases the speed control .2 mph faster every 10 seconds or so (started off at 10mph) and we couldn't get the boat to go faster then 12.4mph even with the speed set showing it was suppose tog et up to 15mph. In this case we had the front surf side full and the rear surf side full.
Should I be thinking the engine is gutless and its my fault for keeping the stock engine in it or could there be something wrong with it knowing the 3 different scenarios?

    More information is needed:

    1. What elevation are you at?

    2. Which propeller is on the boat?

    3. Which rear bags do you have in the boat, and how do you know they were just 25% full?

Assuming you are not at 8,000 feet, have the 1235 prop or better, and you are correct on the ballast...then that is subpar performance.

I would guess that you should be able to plane out anywhere below 4,000 feet with a total of 2,500 pounds in the boat if you have the right prop. A few guys with RZ2's are going to chime in, but I think something is not correct.
    Be excellent to one another.

That seems odd to me. That's not that much ballast so I would think the stock prop should be adequate. Like tall guy said, we need more info. I have the 340 HP engine in my 07 and it pulls great with the stock 537 or the 1235 I have.

        1. elevation - 2,000 feet
        2. prop - what ever came on the boat
        3. rear bags are from MLA (1200 lbs per side in the rear (I think)) + the hard tank (250lbs)
        4. not asked but thought it may get asked - we are on a smaller lake with very calm water

when checking bags I use a visual gage as I know the TT time is not accurate (but as we all know its a shot in the dark but I usually gage the fill rate of the front bag at aprox 3-4 minutes, once they're full I stopped the rear and then checked visually as the bigger MLA bags to be around 13-15 minutes.

I'd probably start with whatever it takes to do a "hard" reset of the ecu and go from there. disconnect all the batteries and leave for a while(or if someone knows another trick). beyond that, it's a call to the dealer or to tige customer service for me.

This is my first summer with a 2011 Tige RZ2. I don't have any trouble like that with mine. I'm the typical dad you mentioned and no problems pulling me up wakeboarding or surfing. I do have a high altitude prop on it (came that way when I bought it) so I'm sure that helps. I've had 7 in the boat and pulled me up. Good luck.

What do you have Taps set at? Usually heavily weighted 3 or 4 is plenty. If you have Taps set at 7 or 8 that may be your issue.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

This. If you want to wakeboard with the taps way up, get on plane/up to speed with the taps down at 1 and then adjust.

Something has to be wrong with the boat! Engine is plenty big enough. I had 9 people on my boat this weekend, and was pulling a guy up that looks like Chris Farley he was wakeboarding at 23 mph. You might want to check to see if you are getting water down around the engine you might have a leak if the engine want get over 15 mph.

I have had 12 guys on my boat, plus 1/2 my ballast full, taps at 1 and I pulled wakeboarders no problem, took about 1 min to get on plane but it got there and pulled at wakeboard speed 22-23 mph just fine. I would check to make sure what prop you have and you may have more ballast in the back than you think for wakeboarding, but it would look at the prop and keep taps at 1 when getting on plane with that much weight.

Nothing is wrong with your boat, it is the amount of weight you just introduced onto the RZ2. I just went through this same scenario once I installed my MLA fat sacs. You have just added almost 2k more in water to the rear of your hull. I though I had a tige touch issue, but really nothing was wrong, minus not enough prop (see above comment about the 1235), to much weight (the RZ2 throws a really nice wake with minimal weight anyways. If you want a beefier wake fill your subfloors and then the bottom portion of the sac, depending on how many people you have aboard.). If you are really set on wake boarding with the RZ2 maxed out on ballast, you will have to do the old fill and drain test multiple times to figure out the max ballast you can have in at your current conditions. In my honest opinion, the RZ2s wake is really good with the subfloors and lower portion of the sac filled (depending on human body ballast). I get compliments on it constantly from the guys riding it.

I want the OP to check his prop to make sure it didn't get swapped out for a non-stock or an "upgrade" prop that really might not be an upgrade.

to answer the question on taps - I was running no more then 2 for the wakeboarder and 4 for the surfer.
toogrady - I was at aprox 25% weight, your saying thats too much weight? And how do you fill your hand tanks only? And with your set-up how long does it take to get on plane?

This. Do not consider anything else to be wrong until you tell us what prop you have. I have a feeling it is going to be a lot of worry about nothing once we find you do not have the appropriate prop.

Put the 1235 on it and it will rock.
