I think by know it is pretty much proven that the concept of delayed convergence works and all of the different manufactures just have a slightly different mechanism for achieving. It can be argued all day if those systems produce a better “pro level” wake than a listed boat but there is no arguing that at an absolute minimum they produce a decent fun wake with no list and the ability to switch from side to side quickly. I think for 90% of the market the convenience of the latter two points will out way the possibly 10 to 20% better wake they could get if they listed their boat. On top of that, other than cost (and potential IP concerns) there is no reason not to want one because if you think you get a better pro wake listed you can always still do that when you want to and only use the more convenient gate system for newbies, kids, etc.
I have experimented with several different manual systems on my 22V and I wont go back to having a listed boat. I don’t really care about switching sides quickly but I usually ride with friends and family who have a casual interest in surfing at best and they are much more comfortable with a level boat. That is especially true for my wife driving and the more comfortable she is the more I get to ride and we all have more fun on the water.
