The wife an I got a chance to demo the surf gate this summer, were still a couple years out from a new boat but the local dealer had a "come check it out day," so we did. The camera angle compared to some footage I have of my RZR is about the same. This is a VLX surfgate with MLS all full and 400's in the back. Motor was a 350 and I believe the wedge was all the way down or a couple clicks up, 3 people in the boat. I would say the size and length was comparable to my RZR, but shape is definitely different when you ride it. I thought it had decent push. You can see the top of the wave is completely different from our listed boats. I did get to ride the wake but didn't get any video of me doing so. With a full crew boat would definitely need the 409 here in Denver

Here's my RZR wave. I prefer my RZR to the VLX I rode but it's what I know and I didn't have time to play with the VLX and try different set ups. I have seen clean gate waves but wasnt blown out of the water by it. I have heard the LSV is best surf boat in their line though.

That first video is precisely the reason most hard core surfers with gate type systems list their boats over. When you list you can clean up that washed over lip. When you are a beginner, that washed over lip is not a big deal, but it is later.

I was on an A24 with TONS of weight, almost 6000 lbs and it wasn't washed over, but it also took about 45 seconds to just make a wave, the 450 motor could barely do it.

When I see the top locals in my area (several of which compete in the Pro Division of national comps), I see it listed, but just barely. It seems listing is still required to get rid of the weird double-lip (reminds me of Centurion's wave), but I wonder if it's not as much as non-gated boats.

Moose.....thats fair when i can get some vids - will post here.

To clarify I only know 3 folks that own gate boats but all them have some amount of list but very small compared to ballast only and they don't half sink the back either. We went out last night w a diff surf buddy that competes Outlaw on 23 Malibu with gate and about 3,000 of ballast evenly in the boat and had darn good wave. sorry we did not have the gopro but will next time. Anyway wave was very long but flatter face which skimmers seam to prefer based on the 8 folks we know and this owner is also big time skimmer. My Jake did some transfer moves and major blast. All about what floats your boat.

Congratson the new boat. I hope you have better luck with dealer support on this boat than you did your Tige. It's always sad to see people leave a brand due to poor dealer support. I say keep the screen name, you are probably a fan of the Z1, just not your dealer + we all recognize you on here

Here's Parker Payne on his Surfgate boat. As you can see in the videos, his boat is barely putting out a wave and he is just struggling to make the wave work with the surfgate. After watching him in the video's, I am not even sure how Malibu continues to sell this awful system that barely works. In the 3 trick combo one, there is barely a goofy wave and it was extremely difficult for him to even do a trick. I mean, who would want that?

I watched the vimeo video....was about to make a stoopid comment....then realized there is a little winky at the end of your comment.

The back to back to back 360's were pretty sweet. I will say that the wave does not look that big, and the guy looks like he weighs a good 120 when he is wet. Not sure how that wave would feel for me at 220 pounds.
                              Be excellent to one another.
