Cannot Fill Gas Tank on my R20 ... HELP!

    Hi, had same issue with 2014 rzr. There is an inlet valve near tank fill cap. On my rzr it is too close to fill cap and fuel backs up and shuts off fuel nozzle while refueling. Dealer has mover the valve further down the fuel fill line, now about 1.5ft from fill cap. Common problem on 2014 models he said.

        Do they have that carbon cannister type thing or just a check valve?

        If a check valve, my problem was solved with the Racor LG 100 fuel/air seperator.

        Look at the pic I posted here and see if you have on that looks like the atwood one. Then read the boatus article linked. This upgrade has made filling up at the pump a much more enjoyable experience.

        Also, if you have the atwood one, you can try maybe putting in a straight fitting (removing check valve) to see if it then vents better and you can fill up and see if the problem disappears. If it does, then maybe try the Racor one I used based on the article.

          You jinxed me! Haven't had blow back in a while. Yesterday I filled up and got fuel blow back after only a gallon or two. Then I remembered your comment, I was at a different station that had an incline making it bow high. It must have trapped the air and not allowed it to vent. My vent is in the rear. Anyway, Sure would have been nice if they vented the tank on the front and rear.

            I've thought about doing that, but I generally only refuel at the end of the day when deballasted so it's not a frequent problem for me.

            Those who encounter this problem frequently might consider lifting the floor panel to confirm 1) there is an air bubble trapped at the front of the tank, and 2) that the existing fuel level is above the fill hoses at the back.

              Mentioned a few times but flipping the gas handle upside down works really well. My boat will not fill with out flipping it upside down.

                Started having the same issue with my 2014 RZ2. It's definitely a vent line issue on mine. I first tried rerouting the vent line to be more in line with the filler tube to see if the sag in the line was causing an air lock. Went to fill it up and the pump shut off after about 1 1/2 gal. I lifted the floor, disconnected the vent line from the top of the tank and it filled with the pump at full pressure and no issues. I don't want to do this every time but, it beats taking a 1/2 hour to fill the tank which has happened in the past. I will be talking to the dealer about a fix.

                  Jeesh what a pain in the butt , just to fill a gas tank , are today's boats becoming so complicated , or is it all about making them as cheap as possible and gouging us poor boat nuts out of the last few dollars for a sport we love .

                    UPDATE ... and PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks for everyone's input. I brought her to the dealer, who contaced Tige. Sounds like a known issue. Basically there is a valve in the gas tank fill tube that sences back pressure / when tank is full, but it needs to be at least a foot down the hose from the nozel in order to work properly. Mine was only about 4 inches. Tige sent the dealer some new hose and they moved the valve. I haven't picked up the boat yet, but have high hopes that this is the last time i have to worry about this problem. Thanks again and for those with similar issues I would take advantage of the off season and get it into the dealer before the weather gets nice.

                      Great to hear they got it fixed for you. As I was reading this I was reminded of some similar issues I experienced in the car business when working on cars, circumstances are slightly different, but did find on a few occasions a certain kind of spider would take up residence in a fuel tank vent or fuel evap vent hose / line and would make a web similar to the likes of an eardrum, and this would cause refueling issues and failed evap vent cycles causing check engine lights and excess tank pressure build up. Knowing how we store and cover our boats this is something to consider if the other things are found not to be the cause. I recall one car in particular I was working on and I removed the vent tube, I wasn't able to blow thru it, so I cut it open in the midlle and hundreds of tiny little spiders went scurying out of the tube.
                      I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!
