Hi ... i have a 2014 R20 and I can't get more than a half tank of gas in the boat at the pump. Dealer is a couple hours away so prefer to avoid taking it until the end of the season, but hoping for an in-term solution. Basically I can't get more than a half tank of gas in the boat at the pump, but I can top it off with gas cans with no issues (38 gallon tank .. pain in the ** to top off with cans). I thought at first that the boat was tilted back a little on the trailer, and since the gas tank fills from the rear that the back of the gas tank was full but the front was not ... but shot that theory down after I lowered the tongue of the trailer and still could only get about a half tank in the boat. Frustrating to visually inspect the tank half full but have gas pouring out .. and then to turn on the boat and have it only read a half tank. Anyone have a similar experience or ideas? It's not keeping us off the water, but it's an inconvenience.

Did you try filling on the first click on the pump? You can also try angling the pump differently. My '07 RZ2 used to be very frustrating when I first got it because it would shoot the gas back out at you until I figured out that if I angle the pump differently and then only use the first click on the pump it is fine. -
That's a good idea. I'll def give that a try because I can't even use the first click ... i have to milk it along even when it's empty. But then I get to a half tank and I can't squeeze in a single drop more. I even took her for a 10 mile drive on the trailer after getting as much gas in the tank as possible (half tank) thinking stuff needed to settle maybe .. went back to the pump after the drive and maybe squeezed another half gallon in. You can literally see the gas sitting inside the area where you put the pump nozzle.Comment

Whoa, if you can see the gas sitting there, that means it's full and your gas gauge is off. Or, maybe there is some sort of obstruction in there? You should only be able to see the gas when it's full.Comment

You should be able to lift the floor up by pulling up on the center of the back seat this will at least let you take a look and see if the fill hose is kinked or maybe your tank is actually full and your gauge is just off.Comment

Yeah ... I've lifted the floor and I can see that the tank is only half full. That day I ran it dry (as in had to get towed) I was only able to get about 18 gallons in after I got her back to the pump.. and it's a 38 gallon tank. I've also run my hand along the hose from the tank all the way to the edge of the boat .. no kinds .. it's a straight shot. I was also thinking that maybe there is a valve malfunctioning on the tank that would allow air to exit the tank as gas fills (creating a pressure problem), but shot that theory down because I'm able to top the boat off with gas cans.Comment

If it's a 2014, you're still under warranty, aren't you? I would take that to the dealer ASAP or call them and see if it's a common problem.Comment

Have you tried taking off the gas caps off both sides? My RZ2 always spit gas back at me due to the pressure build up. I started taking the gas cap off both sides of the boat when I filled up and I could run the pump wide open without an issue. What is different with gas cans that allow you to pour, but not a pump? Slower pour rate? Skinnier nozzle? If you can see the gas sitting in the hose how does the gas in the can get to the tank? Strange.Comment

They only put one gas cap on my boat ... the tank can accept two, but there's only one on there at the moment ... and of couse it's on the opposite side from my truck! Two reason now to have a second cap added ........Originally posted by cday76 View PostComment

I agree with everythign you've said .. especially the "strange" part. I was sure I had solved it when the "ah ha" moment occurred about the back of the tank being full but not the front. It was in the water at the time, so I filled the front ballists and topped off the tank with cans ... Was feeling pretty smart until I couldn't duplicate it at the pump even after I drop the bow ... and I can see at the pump the level of the gas in the tank ... it's only half full.
