    Newbie issues

    Boat is a 2014 RZ2 for reference.

    Had the boat out for the official first time this past weekend for some surfing, wakeboading etc... Can't seem to dial in the wave. Unless I am expecting more then what is capable. I have never surfed just have seen from a distance other boats cruising by and I feel like my wave is not as long as some. I feel like we are right on top of the transom basically. Here are some photos. We have been running 100% surfside and about 50% the other rear side. Taps about 3 and about 10.6mph all the way to 11mph. One thing I noticed yesterday is when I start to try and fill the front tanks it starts to piss like I was emptying them. I then hit drain to see maybe they are full or something and nothing comes out so maybe they aren't filling or some other issue?? Thoughts and tips would be appreciated.

    What ballast does the boat have? You may want to try less weight on the non surf side. On my 07 if I run too much weight on that side it makes the wave flat and not very useable.

      We have 1450(300 hard and 1150 in compartment on each side in the rear and 250 each side front. We can get a huge short wave but can't quite get it nice and long or a good balance of the two.

        What about when I am trying to fill the front and it just pisses water out like if it were draining? I hit drain thinking they are full and at that time nothing comes out. Only when i am trying to fill them. Thoughts on that issue?

          Does it start to leak out of the side (front) as soon as you start to fill? If so, has it always done that or did it take a while to fill/overflow the first time out?

          From my limited experiance (just over a year), it should take 4-5 minutes for the front bags to fill, depending on what factory set up you have.
          If it took a while to fill the first time, did it drain (when you hit drain, did it pee out for a while then stop)? If it didn't then maybe your front is still full and your drain pumps are not working.
          If it has always overflowed right away, there is definatly somethign wrong with your set up from the start.
          Go through you TT and with each zone run it on fill and then listen for that pump (they are very quiet), hit TT to stop the fill then hit again to see if you can hear a drain pump. Each Zone (rear port, rear star, front may have port & star pumps depending on set up).
          If your front is full, this will be very hard on your trailer/lift.

          Not sure how much help this will be but at least you can verify if all of your pumps are running for a start.

            No that is great help. I want to say I believe it may just never have emptied all the way however when I hit the drain all nothing is coming out of the front. Only time anything comes out of the front is when I am trying to fill the front up some. I have no clue this is my first boat. I also noticed last night after I thought I emptied everything there was still a good amount of water in my rear sacs. Not a ton but enough to notice.

                Brime,

                Being a beginner, I would suggest a larger wave, shorter wave, as opposed to a longer pocket for now.

                Here is how I would set the boat up:
                Surf side 100%
                off side 0%
                bow 0%
                speed = 10.5
                TAPS 3-5 depending on the shape and cleanliness of wave face.

                As your skilz grow, add bow weight and speed up. This will lengthen the pocket and smooth the transition.

                  Sounds good. So exactly what should the progression be on surfing? Getting up...throwing rope in... ??

                    You will always have a little bit of water in the all the sacs.

                    For surfing I used the same method as chpthril but slightly different. Also I don’t have the Convex VX.

                    Surf side 100%
                    opposite rear and front side 0%
                    Bow surf side 100%
                    speed = 10.6-11 (depending on how many people are on)
                    TAPS 5
                    Most adults on that side of the wave you are surfing.

                    Heres a picture with the same setup but just an additional 400 sac on the surf side. Nothing crazy big like some other members but it gets the job done.
