2014 ASR

We are considering an opportunity to purchase a new ASR at a pretty good price including a really good trade-in value for our 2005 24V. I was really impressed with the fit and finish - nice components everywhere, SeaDek flooring, etc. Storage room is amazing - front and back with struts on all seats - and the board locker on the transom is a really smart and functional feature. Neat lift-up storage area in the floor for putting shoes, etc. This is one well thought out boat and definitely a major step-up in interior quality over the 24V.

Our young grandkids were literally able to disappear into the rear storage area and crawl into the side storage locker. They of course lot that was really cool. As I said, the storage is pretty hard to believe until you see it. There is 3000lbs of ballast and it's all hidden. You would have no idea that much existed when looking into the rear storage lockers.

We are fairly new to surfing but my daughters who are decent were really impressed and were able to pull off a 360 for the first time. I have not been able to find the sweet spot on our 24V with manual ballast bag but was able to let go immediately on the ASR and ride for awhile - that was a pretty neat feeling. I'm sure I would probably have a similar experience on another properly set up boat, i.e. a properly weighted Z3.

It has the Indmar 6.0L with 415hp. It seemed to have plenty of power when we demoed it, but the ASR is BIG and I'm wondering if anyone has felt it wasn't enough motor. It seemed to be a bit noisy on take-off but was quiet when idling.

Please help me with any thoughts on your experience with the ASR. Your thoughts on the quality of build, engine power, etc.

Nobody on this board has one yet. We have been eager to hear.

There was a bozo on wakeworld who seemed to have some serious struggles with the wave. IIRC the starboard wave was horrible, and the port wave was bad.

Please buy it so that we can get to know that the boat is actually the shizzle. For now it is like hunting snipe...some people have seen it, but no one seems to ever capture one.

I looked at one in Austin Texas. I too thought it had tons of storage and a very nice interior. It was a much larger boat than me and my wife needed so we did not demo it. If you carry many people or need lots of storage it seems to be a very nice boat.Maybe some of the guys at Wakeboard and Water ski Specialty can help as they have sold quite a few.

I'm finding it hard to find any info from ASR owners other than the post mentioned by TallTigeGuy. Seems like you guys have heard some things that I haven't... Is the ASR considered a bad design? I wasn't initially considering it until my dealer brought it by our place for a demo. It is a pretty good deal and I really like my Tige dealer who has treated us well other the years.

I'm wanting a boat that is versatile, holds a boat load of people and can handle rough water. We boat on the west side of LOZ where the water is really good in the morning but can get chopped up on a busy weekend afternoon. Also looking at the MC X30 and SAN 230 but have no knowledge of the local dealers.

My dealer mentioned the starboard surf wake is washed out (we didn't have a goofy rider with us during the demo) and Tige is still working on the VX for the ASR (will be included with this boat when ready).

Stick with a Z3 , I had a Z1, way to tippy , but Z3 is a wicked surf boat

Wicked, your profile says you're getting an ASR or G23, why are you saying to go with a Z?

The surf on a z3 is second to none is what most people say. I have a z1 and it surfs really well. I think wicked is just saying for surfing just go with a z3. From what I understand the ASR was primarily built for wake boarding.

I think the point is that we don't have any information from real end users. That doesn't necessarily mean its bad. It just means a lack of real world reviews. I think if you had an awesome demo, and it seemed to fit your needs, and you have a good dealer, you should get it for sure. We are not going to be able to help you much as far as that specific boat goes.

Probably getting a g23 due to there surf plates. Asr starboard surf wake is garbage

I surf a g23 and I am not that impressed with the wave. Mine still blows it out of the water. You should put a brand new ballast system and a new super high end interior in your 24v and you would have you a sweet wave. Much cheaper as well

Somtime you just have to sit back and laugh, when the ASR came out the, comments made were its a copy of the G23 , but then the comments are it doesnt surf good but the G does, so if its a copy what they forget, the bottom line there isnt enough users out there yet to get good imput so I wouldnt put much value in anything negative or positive till more reports come in, lets just say they had a pretty impressive team work on the design which have a lot more wake experence then most of us.

If your looking at that tangerine one at performance and can swing it then go for it the thing is bada## looking. There are several of the ASR on LOTO so you should be able to run across someone that will give you good feedback. Hell there are 2 sitting on docks at shorty pants. Joe is good to work with and am sure he will spend countless hours getting you the ride and info needed to help your decision making. I would definitely ride behind one of his Z3 to compare as the Z3 is a hell of a lot less in price and will probably get about the same wave if not cleaner. Another thing is the Z3 will be more of a versatile boat as it weighs a ton less. BTW are you attending his TO reunion?

Yes, we are looking at the tangerine ASR. I purchased my 24V from Joe and he has been great thru the years. He definitely works hard for his customers. We have had a couple issues that he has worked with Tige to correct. His mechanic, Barry, is top notch and does just a fantastic job - super professional looking work.

I just want to be sure we are getting the right boat for us. As JLG mentions, the Z3 may be a better fit for recreational slalom skiing, wake boarding and surfing. I will set up a demo to check it out.

Not sure we will be able to make the TO reunion - sounds like they have a great agenda for the event...
