Uh! I think the answer is "Tahoe"

Have you bought a lift ticket at Squaw or Northstar lately? WTF?? Can't afford to take a family snowboarding unless you buy season passes.

                  Uhh..I don't ski SQUAW or Flatstar, It's like a 100 a day

We live close to Sugar Bowl. Like 2 miles..it's 400 for season pass (6 day). Breaks down pretty good if you ski alot

The Marina down the shore is 5.30. That's 1.60 cheaper than town.... You should have said TAHOE CITY. They're gouging people

3.59 for low grade ethanol town gas.
marina yesterday was 4.25 along the river. never stopped so don't know octane or ethanol content.

I believe snow skiing is the single most expensive "common" sport out there. People talk about how expensive boating is, but if you factor out the drop in asset value when a new boat leaves the dealer's lot (i.e. buy a used boat so someone else takes the initial depreciation hit) it's actually much cheaper than skiing. Even if you have your own equipment, the lift tickets alone are $60+ even at the local family ski areas. For $60 in gas I can keep a dozen people really happy on my boat for a whole day. We won't give up skiing but the costs definitely filter out the riff raff.

                        good point WA'

The difference$$ between living here and skiing and visiting to do the same is HUGE. Transportation, Rental, Food, Equipment, ticket and all the little expenses is ridiculous for a ski trip

As a season pass holder and resident the expense of skiing say 3 or 4 days a week pales in comparison to visitor expenses. I myself am 4 maybe 5 minutes away from the mountain I ski at. If I ski 40 days a year my daily skiing expense breaks down to around 15 bux a day if I don't buy any new equipment or clothing.

As far as moving closer to the other marinas....That's easier said than done if you want to keep your boat 'on the water' all summer. Bouys are hard to find open..and can be expensive.

Our bouy is price fixed. It's not part of the Dollar Point Association field but it is controlled by the Dollar Point Residents Association. So the boats in their bouy field pay 1300 per season. Our landlord is made to charge the same $$.

One good thing is the boats in the Dollar Point proper' field must be off by the end of the season..we can stay on all year for that 1300. Which makes it a bargain

Now finding another bouy on the west shore OR far north (where there is much cheaper fuel) we might pay 2000 or more. We'd get cheaper gas but the mooring fees will kill you.

I used to ask for 20 per person to wakesurf each day. Now it pains me that I'll have to up that to 25

Another option is bring in my own pump gas...NOT. Huge fine for self gassing on the water.

Oh here's another Tahoe Fact> If you sink a power boat and the Coast Guard or Sheriff find out the fine is.........$10 GRAND!!

After all is said and done WAKESURFING is still more practical for me than driving 5 hours to surf the coast

At the Marina it's 4.99 a gallon for Regular non ethanol. At the Flying J it's 3.16 a gallon for Regular with Ethanol. I choose to save money and keep 40 gallons in the 5 gallon cans at my trailer.I burn through so much gas i don't have to worry about moisture build up in my tank with the ethanol fuel.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

WHAT? Who is going to fine you for that? The marina that isn't selling you the gas?

Heck, we don't even have shoreline fuel available on my lake. If we couldn't self-fuel we'd have to pull the boat and trailer it to some gas station every time we filled up. That would be a 2-3 times a week event in the busy summer season. Un-freakin-believable.

For an ACCIDENT? Or just if you leave the boat on the bottom intentionally? (As in, cheaper to sink it than dispose of it properly.) Are you seriously saying that if you accidentally sink a boat, then recover it as fast as reasonably possible, they will FINE you for your misfortune just to rub salt in the wound?

Thats correct, spills and discharges are fineable. Check you insurance policy, many actually cover clean up for accidental spills and discharges.

Most marinas and community docks forbid fuel tanks on the docks.
