My new Z3 and some questions

Hi all. Lurker turned owner! Took delivery of a left over 2014 z3 on July 4th weekend. A few questions:

    1. Does the battery switch position change anything with how the batteries charge when running? The dealer says to always run in the combined position so both batteries charge correctly. My Z3 guru says battery switch position does not change charging, and not to run combined for everyday use (makes more sense to me). Who is correct?
    2. Looking to mod my standard bimini to a surf bimini. Noticed a few pinholes in the standard bimini. Before I pay the money to mod it, has anyone experienced pin holes in the bimini?
    3. After the sale and a long drive home, I found out the clamping board racks included in the purchase are not a week out, but are actually on a 4-6 week back order!!! Has anyone experienced this??? That is a pretty crazy wait time when you have no racks or surf bimini in the middle of prime boating weather!
    4. I have some minor spider cracks in one inside gunwale panels and a weird bleach spot on a seat. The dealer I purchased from is out of state, I'll be getting service from another dealer. Any thoughts on whether Tige will correct these items?
    5. Wet sounds AMP for the cabin speakers was dead on one channel. Replacement ordered by the dealer. Seems pretty easy to swap out, was gonna do it myself. Any thing I need to watch out for? At least the REV10's work for now!
    6. The cover kept wanting to ride up on the 8 hour tow home. I messed with the height of the "puck" in the cover that hangs from the tower. I've towed it another 2.5 hours and it seems like it is staying in place better. Better height adjustment or does the cover just need to stretch out a bit to fit right?

All the above is not complaining, just want to get the boat sorted out as best we can and enjoy her! Feeling blessed with the opportunity to step up to a Tige. It was in the 2015 family plan as we are hooked on surfing, but this opportunity came up and we took it. Sorted out my lift last weekend and finally got 10 hours on her. Looking forward to running ballast next time out. Ordered some replacement graphics to add a splash of orange on the side "checkmark" (but I gotta say if the black and white scheme was not slightly dock rashed at delivery, its been growing on me alot).

    1) No. Due to the switch and Auto Combining Relay, the alternator will provide a charge to both battery banks, with the switch in just the "ON" position. When the boat is in use, switch stays in the ON position. When the boat is off the water, switch will be in the OFF position. If you need an emergency start, switch to the COMBINE position.

    5) Before swapping that amp, I would want to verify the issue. There could be a couple of things causing that symptom. Dont want a shorted speaker to kill another amp.

Thanks for the response. How does one test a speaker to tell if it is shorted? My friend with a Z3 had the same exact amp issue from the factory and replacing the amp was his cure from the same dealer, so I did not question it any further.

Mike, do you know whether this is true for the 2013's as well? If so, does that mean when the boat is off (battery switch in "ON" position), and radio is on, the radio is drawing power from just the house battery? In the situation of an emergency start, does switching to COMBINE then draw power from the house battery to start the boat (because the starting battery is dead)?

We had the same "bleach spot" on our new RZR. It turns out it was the factory wax. After a few uses it came out. About the cover; my dealer told me that you don't hang the cover from the rack while towing. The cover is designed to "suck down" with the vents facing backward. Makes sense I guess. I think that's just for water run off. Also you may want to exchange the board racks with Sampson racks. They lock in, in both positions. I don't think they factory clamping racks do. I may be wrong though.

An ohm meter to test the speaker circuit for an open, in which the speaker will not play, or a shorted speaker or a short in the leads to the speaker. That amp is used in every Tige with the upgrade stereo option, so it would not be unique to the Z3, as well as its sold retail to the general consumer. Seems odd that one dealer has had 2 Z3 with the same amp issue from the factory.

Yes. I think it was with the 2011 year that Tige switched to the Dual Circuit Plus switch. For the longest time, Tige has been wiring the stereos and helm off the house bank. Even prior to the DCP switch, the non engine loads drew from the house battery. When in the COMBINE position, the battery banks are electrically in parallel. must the same as jump starting a car with a dead battery.

I was told to run mine in COMBINE just like 007 was told. Thanks for the info Mike.

The only thing wrong with running in COMBINE all the time, is when you drop anchor, crank up the tunes and break out the margarita blender. When a good time has been had by all, both batteries are dead becaue you have been drawing from them both. Running in COMBINE defeats the purpose of the switch and how its wired.

The starting batt only powers the bilge and engine starter and engine electronics , all other goodies are off the house battery , run with the switch in the on position , not the combined , that is a double throw , single combine switch .... If you want I can send you a picture

I run mine in the first or on position. Just like Chp says if you run in combine you will draw down both batteries.
