Transmission cooler and water intake location?

Does anyone have a picture where the transmission cooler and water intake line are on a PCM EX343. I need to pull the hose and check if there are debris clogging it. I have searched the whole forum and people keep saying this is a common problem for overheating, but I can't find where to access it and don't want to pull the wrong hose. I found PCM's water system diagram on their site, but it's not very helpful for me cause it doesn't really show where it would be in the engine bay.

What boat do you have ?? Your water intake line goes into your vdrive first ,

Comes up from the floor , through vdrive, up to engine water pump , how old is the boat ? And did you drain out the vdrive and see if any crud comes out ? As you can see mine has a strainer .

It's a 2011. No I didn't drain the v-drive. I am trying to figure out how to check to see if anything is clogged, and if I need to back flush it. Everyone talks about it, but not how. So basically have no clue where to start.

the transmission cooler looks like a motorcycle muffler (just a black cylinder about 2 or so inches in diameter). It can be accessed through the starboard rear compartment. Take out the dividing wall between the rear compartment and the engine. Then locate the hose coming out of the starboard side of the vdrive. Should be a black 1-1/4" hose with a green stripe on it. That hose should go directly back to the transmission cooler. Just disconnect the hose clamp at the trans cooler and reach in with two fingers and you will feel a screen where weeds like to accumulate. Like Z1Fan also suggested, the V-drive passage will drain if you also disconnect that same hose from the v-drive. I haven't found debris coming out of the v-drive, but have had weeds in the transmission cooler screen. you can buy a strainer from McMaster car for about $30 and install between the water intake thru-hull and the port side of the v drive. You don't need the valve and garden hose port like Z1Fan has above. Just install it in-line on the port side of the v-drive. Hope that helps.

Garden hose port and valve, is for flushing and really easy winterizing 😁

I do it ghetto style, and just hook up my garden hose to the port side v-drive intake (pull off the intake hose).

If it's a PCM v-drive (which it almost certainly is), you can also drain the water out of it by removing the threaded plug at the bottom of the front of the v-drive. Use a 1/2 inch ratchet handle to loosen and tighten. This will drain ALL of the water, whereas removing a hose might not since the hose fittings are higher on the case. This is the factory recommended method for draining the cooling water out of the v-drive. It's also much, much easier than removing and reinstalling a hose.
