    Gas shocks/struts keep popping off

The gas shocks on my observer seat have popped off since day one and now the rear starboard shock has popped off its socket. I have tried to push it the black cap end on to the silver ball socket but with the weight of the seat or hatch its comes off again. Does anyone have a remedy on how to keep these things on? I thought about buying a car shock thats sold at Auto Zone to see if those work. At least those come with cir clips.

They are a pain , you have to continually keep pushing those caps on all the time

My starboard shock kept popping off and the plastic piece was stripped out from the previous owner. The shock would be fine when opening the hatch but would pop off when closing due to what seemed to being stiff or frozen. It was replaced under warranty a month ago.

Same thing happened on our new z3, took it in and it was replaced. Got the boat back and it popped off the same day. It seems like a poor design on Tige's part. The strut goes into a bad angle and breaks that center plastic cap. Luckily the other strut is still doing the job.

Yep. I think it is a bad design especially considering there is nothing to keep the shock on the silver ball socket. Maybe I could try zip tieing them somehow. Also I sent you a private message.

Napa in Lewisville is where I bought new ones for my boat. I took my old ones in and they made sure that lengths and poundages were the same.. They also had the post that you can replace if needed.

We had this issue on the rear lockers of our 2013, thought the new design with 2 units open straight would have fixed the problem as in the 2013 boats it is 1 cylinder at an angle. We had 1 replaced on each side last season and they seem to be holding. Good luck Matt and sorry about all the troubles that you have faced with your new baby.

Oh ya not discouraged at all! I know that all boat brands have these issues and it is expected. I have been around new boats long enough to know that this is part of ownership. I am fortunate as my issues have been small and haven’t kept me off the water. Im the type of person that likes to fix my own gear/toys/machines etc.

dont ask why I know this... I must have to much time at work or something. But usually Tige uses ASR struts and the standard type. but looks like yours are the new varilift. I say see if using the older standard type will solves it popping off. maybe slightly deeper mount on the ball.

                        hope that helps some.

Anyone know what lengths the rear locker and Observer seat shocks are? I'm not near the boat at the moment to measure them.

I dont know the actual length. I went to Autozone and replaced it by just by visually inspecting what they had on the shelf with the old one in my had. I only replaced my observer seat and it works perfect, doesn't pop off. I can send you the model# I used for mine if you're interested. Its not stainless but these have the cir-clips in the socket and hold much better.
