Help - Dock Rope wrapped around Shaft and Strut

Low speed in reverse snagged a loose rope hanging out the back. Shut engine down. Had to cut rope off while underwater. Left remnants of threads stuffed in strut . Pried as much out as could with pliers. While still in water, did some low speed tests 10mph, forward and reverse. Checked to see if threads came out - did not. Did same at higher speeds. See pic for what is still left. Ran boat normal for another day. Absolutely no vibrations at all. Suggestions? Boat is now pulled out of water. I plan to get under there and see if I can pull more of the threads out.

What material was the line? Looks like nylon and if it's still there it's most likely melted to the strut bearing now. It needs to be removed or you'll destroy the bearing with lack of cooling water flow. The best way to do it is remove the drive shaft coupler at the v-drive (four bolts and nuts) and pull the shaft back until the coupler hits the stern tube bellows inside the boat or the prop hits the rudder. Either way, it will help make the rope fall out of the bearing when you pull the shaft. Mark the coupler with a scratch across both the v-drive side and the prop shaft side so you put it back together oriented the same. If you wanna have some real fun, check the coupler alignment before cinching it back down.

Thanks, yeah, will look into it further, good point on water cooling, did not think of that.

Did not quite ramp up to that speed in reverse. Misspoke..... Rev'd it higher than normal, but did not go backwards that far....
