I bought a 2005 Tige Switch I at the end of last summer. About two weeks after I bought it the speedometer stopped working. I took it back to the dealer and they said the gauge was bad and that it would have to be sent to Faria to be rebuild. I had the boat winterized about a month later, the speedo was removed and sent back to Faria. The dealer reinstalled the remanufactured speedo in the spring but it still didn’t work. After that the dealer said the transducer was the problem. It took them two month to find a new transducer but they did and installed it this week. Unfortunately, the speedometer still doesn’t work. So basically the dealer hasn’t diagnosed the problem correctly and they don’t know what they’re doing. I’m looking for a recommendation on how I can diagnose the problem.
I’m ok with a multimeter and here’s what I’ve done so far.
I measured across the ignition post and the ground post and read 12 volts with the key on. Based on Faria troubleshooting guide this would indicate that the gauge is ok. Is this correct?
I measured across the signal post and the ground post and read 12 volts with the key on and the paddlewheel spinning. I did not read the fluctuating voltage that I was expecting. Based on Faria troubleshooting guide this would indicate that the transducer is bad but the transducer is brand new. Also this was same reading I got when I did the same test when the old transducer was connected.
The Faria speedometer I have has a 4th post for an external potentiometer, which is currently connected but I don’t know how to test it.
