    Attaching 2012 R20 Factory (I think) Mirror

Any suggestions for attaching the factory mirror on a 2012 R20? It seems like the opening in the mount is too narrow and I'm afraid to push it on as I think it will scratch the frame (looks like there are already some scratches where the previous owner attached it). The corners of the mount are really sharp.

Also, it has black foam tape on both sides of the U shaped part that goes over the frame. Is that the way it comes from the factory? It would fit over the frame much better without it, but I would be concerned about scratching too since it's metal.

I had to do some grinding on my factory mirror mount before it would slide on to the windshield. If I remember right there was a piece welded on each side that I ground off, then added the foam tape. Not sure if my boat came with the wrong mirror or if they all do not fit, but after one season I upgraded to the pmt mirror and love it!

The stock mirror is pretty much crap. The way you describe it is the way it comes with the foam tape inside the U frame. It fits tight. Make sure the screws are backed up all the way( I actually take them out when i slide it over) and that the little hinged part the screw pushes on is folded all the way back against the frame.

The foam tape was shot, probably from the fit being so tight. I did the same as mdamon and ground down the extra piece welded to the side of the U opposite the screws. I sanded down the corners as well so they aren't so sharp. I added some new foam tape. I really just want to try it before buying something different; make sure I use it, make sure it's not in the way, where to mout it, etc. I'll give it a try this weekend and see how it goes.

        Thanks for the replies.
