    Aluminum Trailer

Has anyone had an aluminim trailer made for their boat? I am about to buy an '05 24V on a Dorsey Trailer and would hate to use that trailer in the salt. I know some of you just cringed at that thought but seeing as I live about 2 minutes from the ICW in Florida I know I will use the boat in salt sometimes and am looking at replacing the steel trailer with an aluminim one. Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks!

my friend that lived in Hawaii didnt' have an alum, but just had to wash the whole boat and trailer and plug all the holes to wash the inside of the trailer down as well, took him about an hour.

I'm sure if you called Dorsey they could tell you. Last time I talked to them they were real nice.

Call any trailer place and see if they can do it. I might be worried that it couldn't handle the weight. But they make car trailers so they should be able to. It's just gonna be Costly!!!

Yeah, about $2600 for a nice one with stainless brakes custom fitted for the boat. Do you know how long the trailer lasted him in HI??? I was told by the dealer it should last if I wash it well, I already spend about an hour washing even my Sea Ray and aluminum trailer so I would probably be considered anal. I was also told by a friend that he ran some garden hose lengths down trailer rails that had been perforated to flush the inside.

that garden hose idea is a GREAT idea!! with doing that you could have them hooked up while your washing the rest of the boat down. He had his for a little over two years and didn't have a problem with it. He is anal as well, so..... Not sure if that helps you, but it's all the info I have.

Most boat trailers I've seen used in Salt water are galvanized, not aluminum. Also, if you're going to use your 24V in saltwater, I'd make sure it doesn't have the raw water cooling system.

I appologize, it is actually a 22v and it is raw water cooled. I have a friend with the same motor in his Shamrock with raw water cooling and has not had a single issue in the four years he has owned it with proper flushing. The salt neutralizing flushers are supposed to be pretty good also. There are alot of galvanized trailers but the aluminum trailers with stainless brakes are king around where I am.
