I went through this same dilemma when we purchased our boat. We ended up with the z3 and couldn't be happier !! Though a g23 may be in our future !

On that note it is good to shop around see what dealers in other states are selling the same boat for will help set the price for what you are going to pay. I know that different areas hold higher prices but lets be honest all these dealers are getting the boat for the same price some are just making a killing on them and others prefer to sell at a lower price to keep a consumer coming back for service, parts, and possibly another boat down the road which will make them more in the long run. I have seen the 14 z3 as low as 79k and as high as 100k with about the same options so shopping around will possibly net you a larger boat for the same price as a smaller one. Never hurts to be an educated buyer!!

Your are correct , the only difference is the freight so possibly 1k in either direction

As always, remember about "leftover" boats too. These are boats that the dealer ordered on spec, figuring they would sell them during the season, but didn't. Dealers are allowed to sell leftovers anywhere including outside their "region" and they usually have hefty discounts because the dealer is tired of the carrying costs and needs to clear the floor for next year's models. Best of all, leftovers come with 100% full factory warranty - after all, it is literally a brand new boat!

So if you don't absolutely insist on having the very latest model year, you can save tens of thousands and expand your search area nationwide. Worst case, shipping a boat clear across the country costs about $3000 (I did it) but you'll save way more than that. If it's close enough you can drive to pick it up. Several folks on here, including me, bought our boats exactly this way and saved mucho cash.

Not sure how many Z3's will be on the used market yet. It's a pretty new boat and most owners are thrilled with it.

I have no brand loyalty between engine manufacturers, but all else being equal I like reliability and proven track history. Indmar has been around a while but this is the first year of production for them with Tige, whereas PCM had been supplying drivetrains to Tige for quite a few years. I have a rule that I don't buy vehicles the first year they're made or dramatically revised, and every time I've bent that rule I've regretted it (even with a new model Honda a while back - I figured if anyone would do the first year right it would be Honda but NOOOOOOOOO....). So all else being equal I'd favor PCM solely because of the track history with Tige, which means 2013 model year or earlier.

I was looking at a new 14 model a few weeks back and a used 12 model also and was torn between the 2 as the 14 was only 4k more and had factory warranty with the service plan also. To me that 4k gap is minimal to know you have a warranty if anything is to go wrong. I have not jumped on one yet as I like the fact mine is paid for and haven't found one in a color that I absolutely have to have! Just something to keep in mind.

Is the ford engine a standard or only option that is on the 15 models anyone know?

$4000 more for new, with warranty, with service, and two extra years of advancements is a no-brainer: BUY THE NEW ONE.

But most of the time the price difference is greater than that. You can lose $10K just driving it away from the dealer.

I didn't think so, but if so then chalk up another exception. And remember, I did have to have the transmission replaced under warranty....

All this talk of a "Ford engine"... I thought Tige was using Indmar now? Is Indmar a subsidiary of Ford? Or do they just use Ford blocks?

Awhile back I was in WWS and the engine talk came up. Apparently the word was that there is going to be an uncertainty about the future availability of GM blocks for marine engines. Im not sure if GM was just gonna stop producing or if there was something else going on. I guess Tige asked PCM what the business plan going forward was for motors going forward without GM and the answer was kinda of an "i dont know". This is just word of mouth rumor of course. Who knows what the real reason was.

They knew GM would have over 20 million cars recalled by the end of June 2014 and halt all sales of Chevy CRUZ 2013 AND 2014.
