canyon lake texas - any info

Taking the family on a trip and wanted to know if anyone is familiar w/lake and is it worth boating on.....we are going to take a few lake days and then some kid days at sea world and schlitterbaun.
Any info on where to stay and good spots on the lake would be great.

You can stay in New Braunfels which is not far from the lake. I don't know about any places near the lake and they may be pricey.

Be aware that Canyon Lake can get very bumpy as it gets winds in the canyon. There will be lots of sail boats on the lake that think they own the lake and have no clue of the rules of the road.

The water is deep in the main lake and you don't have to worry about shallow spots until you get to the northwest end of the lake.

There are several parks on the lake all with good ramps that are easy to use to launch and retrieve. I particularly liked Potters Creek on the upper end of the lake. The ramp is in a cove that gets less chop.

Everyone will have a great time at Schlitterbaun. Most of the water is from the Comal river and it can be well, brisk as it comes from under the ground.

Have a good time but be careful on the lake if it gets even slightly windy as the lake will get rough and not so pleasant.
