I have a 1997 2150 WT, 40 Gal. Tank. The fuel gauge works but is unreliable. The way it bounces around I think it's in the sending unit in the tank. Thoughts on a replacement??
Thanks!

On my boat, the factory sending unit only showed ever ¼. Also seeing how the tank is very long but the height of the tank is short, the gauge would bounce around as the bow of the boat goes up and down. If want to know how much gas you really have, you will need to install a fuel flow meter.
Here is a link to a website with more details about the fuel flow. http://www.boat-project.com/electro/proj-6.htm
The gauge does get very erratic as it gets lower. It's just the design of the tank as Whitlock said. I'm not sure anyone has tried a new sender. I don't think you could change it much. The fuel flow meter is a solid option. One owner changed his fuel tank to the middle so he could put ballast on the sides. That would do it as well. The tank would be taller and deeper rather than long and shallow.
I have a 2004 22V and I need to replace the fuel sending unit. I'm going to try a REED style and I need to know the tank depth. I know I have an aluminum tank and it's difficult to get to the top of the tank.
Does anyone know the depth of my tank so I can order the part before I have to tear everything apart???
The stock sender is definitely junk. The universal I got worked for just about all depths, you just move the float up and cut the end off per your tank size. I just swapped out mine on my 2003 20v. Piece of cake. Tank was 6" deep.
