    problem with wakeboard racks

ya so we just got our brand new 22ve a needless to say i love it already have 25 hours on it and we got it friday...i cant wait to really get some weight in it and see its full potential....I was however a bit dissapointed rather kinda pissed when we were out on the lake going through some memorial day chop when our left board rack snapped off with two boards on it and chipped the fiber glass on the side of the boat. First off if someone had been sitting close by this could really have hurt them... second after closer examination we realized the rotating board racks were only secured with two screws!...we looked at some other board racks in the marina and they were much beefier than ours and the last thing i wanna do is drive around with my boards sitting on the boat floor because im afriad they will fall off again in choppy water.

...your thoughts or suggestions also do you know if the non rotating board racks are more durrable

Glad nobody got hurt...too bad about your boat. In my experience, anything with fewer moving parts is better. I can recommend the racks from MonsterTower, they're pretty stout.

I was talking to the sales manager of my local Tige dealer at the boat show about his new 24Ve. I was checking out the swivel racks and noticed that the boards hit the bimini when deployed. He said "Yeah, I know, didn't think of that when we drilled the holes for the mounting brackets". I said " You mean Tige doesn't set up the mounts at the factory?". He said "No."

I would be talking to the dealer about that one but the dealer should be talking to Tige. It sounds like a design issue to me. They should be engineered by Tige to take the same kind of abuse the boat does. However, this is the first time I've heard of it so it could be a dealer problem. I'm glad nobody was hurt.

my stock racks really suck!! No offense Tige. I have the monster tower one's now, and they have only let me down once, and it was after three years of use. Tom at Monster tower shipped me the part that broke, and it was here in two days, free of charge. Not to mention he send some sweet koozies as well!! Give them a look up, they are well worth the price!!

Anybody have trouble with the Monster racks slipping down on the new Tige tower? The tower measures 2 3/8, but Monster only has spacers for 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 towers.

              Use one 2 1/4 and one 2 1/2 spacer.

The mounting holes for the racks are drilled into the supports from Tige unless it is an after thought on the order.

are the non rotating board racks any sturdier? and by the way i was searchin the forum and found another person who had the same exact thing happen on the same boat so it looks like it wasnt just me.

                      Swival racks

I noticed my screws were backing out after only 5 hours on the boat. I took them off, took them home and took them apart. There appeared to be sometype of thread lock on all the screws but obviously something that wasn't holding. I cleaned all the threads and reinstalled everything using Blue Threadlock. Since then, I've only put on another 5 hours but nothing is backing out or loose.

Sorry to hear about yours breaking. I'm now thinking I should have put a dab of silicone adhesive between the rack and the swival component where your 2 screws failed. Some additional holding power.

just to clarify though the screws didnt come out they snapped...honestly who in their right mind would expect two screws to hold a full board rack with two boards on it in chop...

                          Lee,
I tried the two different spacers on my Monster racks and they seemed to tighten up better. I will know for sure on Saturday at the lake.

                          Thanks!

anyone with the monster tower racks solved the problem with them still rotating a bit? I have gotten new inserts from Tom and they still tend to move on me. Any one have any ideas?

My dealer was working on a Sampson tower yesterday when I was there and their inserts are made out of some kind of rubber. I think that would slip less then the hard plastic that Monster uses.

I will let you know on Monday if mine held with one 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 monster spacer in each clamp.
