RZR Ballast Drain Pump Not Woking

I've got a 2012 RZR and the right rear ballast drain pump is not working. All of the other intake pumps are working and so are all of the other drain pumps. Of course, it is one of the pumps that's under floor in the back for the hard tanks. I tried swapping out the fuses with no luck. I also tried the manual empty ballast switch, which worked to turn on all of the other ballast drain pumps, just not this one. So, I am guessing it is the pump itself.

I've got a family vacation at the lake that starts this weekend, with a ton of people at the lake house. So, this is the one week of the summer I really need the boat to be working right. My Tige dealer is backed up and can't get to it before the weekend. I've called several other dealers and everyone is backed up.

So, I am now thinking I might have to tackle this myself. I'm looking for any tips on this project. What ballast pump I need to buy? One guy I called sad it was likely just the insert to the ballast pump that needed replacing. Does that sound right? And, if so, what is that insert?

Finally, I understand it can be a bear to get to the pump in the back. If you guys have tips on that, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I just went through this same thing with my 2012 Z3. Same drain pump and location. I was able to remove the divider in the back locker between the ballast bag area and the taps motor/reservoir. I was then able to reach under and remove the pump cartridge from the housing. The cartridge is the piece that will more than likely need replaced. Mine was a Johnson pump that Bass pro shop had in stock for $50.00 bucks.

Let me know if you need any other help. Here is a link to the thread I made here on TO. http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...-Z3&highlight=

Actually it may not be the same pump and depending on exactly when the 2012 was made it may not be the same location. The pump could be a Johnson(red) if its an early 2012 or a Tsunami(white) 800 if its a later build 2012. They are common to find just about anywhere. Verify what you have before you buy one. Travsism's trick to reach around the wall may work, but in the RZR there is far less room and I am guessing your going to have to remove the floor. Make sure you have power at the pump before you get to far along.

Thanks, guys. I was able to get a very full fat sac out of the storage locker and drained. Hard tank is still full. I'm not sure how else to verify I have power going to the pump. And I'm not sure how to even begin removing the floor. I am guessing it involves unbolting sections of wall housing the battery that are attached to the hull, removing the hardware that keeps the storage locker door open, removing the battery, etc. until there's nothing left and the floor can be pulled up? I see the hose that goes to the drain pump and disconnected it from the fat sac. But, I couldn't figure out any way to wedge my hand in there to find the pump.

I would trace the wiring coming from the drain pump, and use t-tap connectors to tap in a new pump (can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, GAnder mountain, etc). If the new pump works, then you know its the pump and can begin the disassembly to get to the old pump. If the new one doesn't work, then you know that the wiring is screwed up somewhere (assuming you've checked all fuses, etc), and you now have a spare pump. Just tap into the wiring as high as you can, then you can use liquid electrical tape to seal the t-tap areas back up.

Just has this happen to us yesterday. 2013 RZR rear ballast. Now we need to try to find the manual drain and check the fuses. If that's not it, it looks like its back to the dealer and our season is pretty much over

There is no manual drain for the tank, as in any kind of manual drain/ petcock/ valve to open. The only way to get it out is the pump. There is an emergency "empty ballast" switch underneath the helm down by your feet. Remove the upper panel and you will see it by the fuse box. This will only work if the pump and its wiring/ circuits are working. Can you hear the pump running when you switch it on? If not the first thing I would check is the plug/ wiring. Follow it up from where the pump it at the back of the tank to where it meets the harness above where the battery/ TAPS pump is. I had mine come unplugged on the starboard side above the TAPS pump. If thats all good check for power to the pump next.

just used the emergency 'empty ballast' switch under the dash. It works. So am I just looking for a wire that came unplugged from the TT unit?

Cotige, I think it only about 4 -8 screw to remove the floor covering the hard tank. The pump is at the back of the tank.. should only take you about 30 min or so.

Same issue with mine. Emergency drain would work but pump would not work from TT. I traced the wires from the fuse box and simply had a loose connector. Seated the plug and put some electrical tape around it and it worked perfect.
