Nautique G21 Demo Anyone?

Well, I still love Tige but more and more I am finding that they are late to the party with current trends, and that is frustrating me. Don't get me wrong I love 'Tige Land" I just wish they would be more proactive with new technology, I mean the last cool thing they did was the VX which is a great "wake shaping design" but it is no Gate, NSS or Swell system. The ASR is badass and I love it, the only thing holding me back is the lack of a Surf system and now maybe the 2:1 tranny idea. I am not buying the list and transfer pump idea any longer, gates are here to stay for many reasons... If you don't believe me go demo a system, I did and was super impressed! (Surf gate)

The 2:1 tranny is awesome, basically they can run the 409 motor in any of the G boats and have no issues planing while loaded, it also cuts the fuel mileage by quite a bit as well from what I have read. Again Tige is in the same boat with the weight of the ASR's so hopefully we see this change in the future.

I have no doubt Tige will make all these changes, they will have to, to remain competitive I just wish they would do it sooner then later before they realize they are going to lose existing owners (like everyone reading this) to other manufactures designs.

My intension is not to be negative with this post.. I just hope when it comes time to buy again, next year Tige has more boxes checked in my want list then the competition does.

I think all the new inventions are awesome, but I still haven't surfed any that beat a heavily listed boat. The G23 with 750's in the back on top of the stock hard tanks was much better. But still not the same as my boat. I think for probably 95% of surfers it's perfect. I surf a 247 (which is my favorite boat out) with gates and it's so much better listed.

I am guessing aftermarket NSS systems that auto deploy are in the works. It wouldn't be hard to design. So lots of boats will have the system which will be great.

KS- I don't think you came off negative. Tinkering with waves and wave design is a hobby of mine, so I am not the average consumer. I have surfed a lot of boats and still none are as big, long and as powerful as my 24v. But I am may be a little biased My buddy just got the new vx brackets for his 2013 z3. I can't wait to try that.

So I will chime in on this... I just switched over to a G23 from a 22Ve... one item not being talked about here is the ability to transfer waves in 2 seconds... it doubles the amount of stuff you can do behind the boat surfing. Many factors went into my decision but this was one of them... I think it comes down to personal preference... it was big selling point to ride level while surfing... this makes my wife feel better and my 2 little girls are not stumbling around on the swim platform.

I guess I'll chime in as well.... lol. I will not be in the market for a new boat for 2 or 3 years but I have to admit that I will shop around as well. I love my boat and I am proud to be a Tige owner. A boat that doesn't have to list will definitely be on my short list. I know that alot of owners on here can flat out rip it up surfing behind a boat so pro level waves are desired. I'm a decent surfer and at 260lbs I need good push to float my big arse so I understand the need for clean pushy swells. The only reason I will look at other brands while shopping is the level surfing and quick switch. The crew of people I take out regularly are a pain in the arse and always gripe about having to sit where I tell them. I just tell them to shut up or they can swim back to the dock.... haha Really, it would be so nice to evenly weight a boat and deploy a surf system and boom.

I have not demoed the NSS but have demoed surfgate (2014 VLX - mls full plus 400's). I have heard tons of people bash surf system waves, saying they lack push. Not the case what so ever with the VLX i rode..... wake was rock hard. I will admit the lip and top of the face of the wave on my boat and most Tiges is cleaner but for the most part that's aesthetic for the eyes. I know they consume more gas but that's not a deal breaker for me. I have no question that G's are just as impressive, if not more.

Here in Colorado there is not a close G dealer. A close dealer is big for me.... service stuff etc. I hope Tige convinces me to buy a Z3 but I'll certainly shop other boats.

I figured when you put the boat up for sale after the surf event you had a G in mind! Cant agree enough with you ST68 about the wife stumbling thing and scared to drive the boat when it is on goofy surf for me. I know my buddies g25 is amazing how fast you can switch back and forth and its a level boat with a super clean long pocket. Not to mention I have hit his wave with my 22ve and thought it was going to crack in half! I guess my only hold up with a G is pricing and dealer availability at the time being for me that is. +1, Exactly same situation with me and my Family. When I am out with the boys (cloudy days..LOL) sure we will build the biggest wave we can, list the boat and go nuts, but that is only 10% of my boating time, the other 90% is with my Wife and kids and guess what.. A gate boat makes the wife happy, easier to drive the boat, can go back and forth with a flip of a button and does not have to be crammed into a corner. We also water tested a 2013 VLX with 400Lbs on top of factory and I think that wave was every bit as enjoyable as my past RZ2 wave. So much so that my in laws ordered a 2014 VLX based on that water test of Surf Gate. (traded in their MC for a VLX) Yes, there a some things I don't like about the BU ( Marine power for 2014 being one) but overall way more boating enjoyment and bang for the buck when it comes to surfing in my opinion.

I have said this before I love Tige and think I have the best dealer around so its very hard for me to want to leave Tige, but when it comes time to buy I have to put my family's priority's above all as our boating season is short here in BC

We stopped in at our local Nautique dealer this weekend to check out the G21 & G23 side by side to allow us a better look before setting up to go out on our first demo with them. Doing this helpped us figure out a few things. If moving over to a G boat, it would have to be the 23 for us - to my suprise as we really like the 21' of our Z1. The extra 2' really make a difference in the cabin, I think more so than between the Z1 & Z3. The bow becomes much more comfortable, you gain 2 built in coolers (1 in floor and 1 transom) and the extra storage is noticable. With the placement of the tower on the G boats, you have to duck under it when entering off the back where on the 23 it is far enough forward that you can step down but it is not so far forward that the speakers are over the driver as they are on our Tige (I have hit my head on the REVs more than once being over the driver seat). The tower also seemed to be higher off the floor.

The question of pricing was brought up. The G23 that was on the floor, very well equipped had an MSRP of $161,000 and that is American dollars - I did ask . Not sure if I will be able to convince myself or the wife the cost is worth while. I have to admit that the fit and finish is better than our Tige, but our Tige I think is a better fit and finish than any of the Malibus, Moombas... I have seen. It is also nice that all of the compartments will stay open instead of holding up the seat while trying to get somethign out.

It looks as it we will be demoing a G23 vs. the G21. I think I just like shopping for boats

Great question. Yes, I have given it some thought and boardman on here works at our Tige dealer and if you looked back, suggested that we come in and take the ASR for a demo. I cannot be clear enough that we are absolutly pleased with our Tige dealer (not just because they have a few employees on here) - I always say the brand has to offer a product that interests me and the dealer has to retain my business. I would stay with our dealer, I just don't know if Tige has anything that would be of interest to trade out of our Z1. Its the little things that make the difference. All the compartment doors in the Nautiques stay up, so you don't have to hold them wile trying to load/unload, the boat appears to put out a good surf wave (yet to ride myself) without sacrificing any storage or having to move things around to accomodate the ballast sacs. All of the rear facing seating is great, the bow is functional for this - you could easily have 7 people rear facing in these boats and most people want to watch the action. The reason we purchased a VDrive in the 1st place was to surf and I haven't really seen anthing on the ASR and surfing and my guess is it would have the same storage loss issues as our Z1, so not a benifit there. Just the little things that might make the boat usage more enjoyable.

I have surfed behind a G25 and they are amazing and massive boats. I didn't find the wake excessively better or worse, but we just used the stock ballast with only 3 people on the boat. I did like the ballast all under the floor and the fit and finish is second to none. For price per unit of happiness, the Z3 is a much better deal for me.

The storage under the front looks massive and based on pictures the way it is divided is actaully quite nice and I feel is well thought out - it would also strengthen and stiffen the hull. Given that the are comparable boats, no one has yet to be able to answer or confidentally answer wether or not it is actually a decent surf boat and what is needed to make it so. Again, the reason we purchased a V-Drive in the 1st place is so that we could safely surf. This is the main use of the boat...yes we still wakeboard a little and there is generally a tube session once a day for the kids or kids at heart, no skiing. Then demo both and tell us how the surf wake is , because people can tell you that the surf wake is great on a G23 , but have they surfed a ASR , it has to be an apples to apples comparison , not Z3 to G23 , or CC 230 to Z3 ,or CC 210 to Z1 .

You can take this for anyway you want, you can say im saying these things because Im a dealer , but here goes Ive been a dealer for 10 years, we work on every brand , we have done the warrant work on CC, malibu , MC, and centurion for years now, the reason I bring this up is because of the comments of perceived quality differences betwwen Tige and CC , as to touch screen and electronics no failures, CC multiple replacements of guages and the gateway system , hulls no failures, CC bottom blistering severe fixed once came back no custormer compensation this hasnt been an isolated issue, interiors equal amount of issues in same time line both very little, engine problems equal but more expensive to repair after your out of warranty on CC due to placement of power plant between ballast on most models, steering cables equal , ballast system more repairs on CC due to system design check valves , manual shut off levers, vent gates, manual vent valves etc, hydra gait cable failures more then trim failures and very difficult to replace due to location of exhaust, now I could go on but Ive made my point there not any better value , one last thing for those that have been on this site for 10 years like myself , many of you have called me in the past to assist in helping fixing a problem, when I have seen an area where I think Tige , or the engine manufacture could make an improvement Tige always listened and many time requested that i review some neww idea, when I have tryed to assist CC they were always arogant and said we dont have these problems , how ever who receieved the calls when they couldnt come up with a solution , just ask my sons who get mad at me every time for correcting a design problem on CC !
